George Clooney broke his Oscar bachelor status by taking his Vegas cocktail waitress girlfriend to Sunday's ceremony (24.02.08).

The 46-year-old actor - who was nominated for the Best Actor award for 'Michael Clayton' - arrived at the prestigious Los Angeles ceremony with his girlfriend of seven months Sarah Larson.

A source said: "Sarah really wanted to go to the Oscars and begged George to take her.

"George broke the rule of a lifetime and finally agreed. Sarah was the perfect companion and everyone agreed they made a lovely couple."

Sarah Larson also is said to resemble his ex-girlfriend Celine Balitran.

Both were waitresses. Hollywood Reporter Janet Charlton claims that he met Celine in Paris "and they lived together for almost 3 years until 1999. He warned her that he wasn't interested in marriage and eventually she believed him. When they split he gave her a house and cash to pay a visa lawyer."

Charlton claims George "seems to repeat himself, we wonder if his romance with Sarah end up the same way. George says he's a better EXboyfriend than he is boyfriend."

George - who eventually lost out on the award to 'There Will Be Blood' star Daniel Day-Lewis - revealed he helped the former cocktail waitress to prepare for the prestigious event.

He joked: "I helped her curl her hair before we came here."

Referring to Sarah's heavily-beaded turquoise Valentino dress, George quipped: "It's all my handiwork. I'm a seamster! I sewed all the beads on myself!"
