Jack Johnson says music helped him overcome his insecurities.

The 'Better Together' singer - who has sold more than 15 million albums worldwide - was painfully shy until he began performing in front of his fans.

Jack said: "I used to be shy to the point where I'd be too insecure to walk into a crowded restaurant and put my name on the waiting list. I could never read in class - I was horrible at oral presentations.

"I'm still pretty bad, but I don't feel like my heart's going to explode every time I do an interview.

"I look at my music and in certain ways it helped me to get over being insecure. But it's brought a lot of other insecurities, too."

Although music has improved Jack's self-confidence, the star says it has also attracted unwanted fame and attention.

He said: "There are times when I get recognised, and it becomes overwhelming. I can't be comfortable in a restaurant if I see people looking. But I'm a pretty low key guy - I don't look famous. The way I dress isn't designed to draw attention."
