I was there that night in 1975 Jack was in the Sheridan Opera House for his tribute (in fact the first one he'd received up 'til then). I don't know about his anxiety or if he walked out of the screening, but when the last clip from THE PASSENGER of Jack kicking his beached car, stuck to the hubcaps in sand, hit the screen and pans over the desert, Jack appeared on stage as the scene wound down and was very gracious accepting the cheers from the audience. It was early in his career and early in the history of the Telluride Film Festival. It was cool.
