Ah, no, absinthe isn't, in fact, illegal in the US. With any luck, at least two brands (Kubler & Lucid) should be available on a local liquor store shelf.

And it has never been illegal to posses absinthe. Just some dubious legality for importing it, since loosened.

I read the original article and fail to understand how someone who has never preveiously consumed Absinthe can be considered and expert on the subject.

Yawn, a panel of 'critics' who obviously have little to no experience of the broader offerings of absinthe and offer no basis of comparisons in their commentary.

If they did, they would be using terminology and tasting points commonly used by the greater absinthe connoisseur community.

Their opinions are largely uninformed and unhelpful. The Epicurious reviews leave a great deal to be desired.

The same Swiss distillery you mention makes absinthe for that long haired guy that runs the Wormwood Society...it's called 'Marteau Verte Classique'
Isn't the absinthe they sell in the US without wormwood thujone? It's a cleaned up version for Americans I heard.
