Michelle Williams vain attempts to clean up Ledger

Heath Ledger's personal battle with alcohol and drugs was so damaging to his relationship with Michelle Williams that she made an attempt to take him to a Malibu rehab, Us Weekly reports in its latest issue.
The article claims that for three years Williams was a witness to the actor's use of alcohol and drugs, including cocaine, heroin and "a variety of pills," says a Ledger confidant.
In March 2006 – just weeks after the couple walked the Oscars red carpet and when daughter Matilda was only five months old – Williams drove Ledger to Promises Treatment Center in Malibu, California, the unnamed confidant tells Us Weekly.
According to the article, Ledger refused to check in, convincing Williams he could clean up on his own.
Even after the couple realized "they were in way over their heads," according to a source, and split in September 2007, two sources told Us magazine that Williams demanded Ledger undergo drug-tested before his visitations with his daughter.
When Williams learned the news of Ledger's death - she was reportedly inconsolable. "She cried and screamed as soon as she heard," a source on the Swedish set of her latest film, Mammoth, told Us Magazine.
