Robbie Williams has become good friends with a man who once claimed he was the son of God.

The 'Angels' singer has befriended former soccer star David Icke, who believes reptiles secretly rule the world, and the pair have enjoyed many nights out in Los Angeles.

A source told Britain's The Sun newspaper: "David happened to be in a restaurant at the same time as Robbie. Rob recognised him and introduced himself.

"They had a good laugh together and have been meeting up since. It's an odd acquaintance, to say the least."

Robbie and David - who is California to promote his theories - are said to have bonded over their shared obsession with aliens.

Robbie - who gave his 2006 'Close Encounters Tour' a UFO theme - has previously admitted he often dreams of being abducted by extra-terrestrials, while David believes world leaders, including George Bush, Tony Blair and Britain's Queen Elizabeth are disguised reptiles from a star constellation called Draco.

When David appeared on a British TV chat show in the early 90s, he was ridiculed for claiming he was the "son of God" and predicting Britain would be devastated by tidal waves and earthquakes.

However, he later insisted he was misinterpreted by the media, saying: "I used the term 'son of God' in the sense of being an aspect, as I understood it at the time, of the infinite consciousness that is everything. As I have written before, we are like droplets of water in an ocean of infinite consciousness."
