A bizarre video of Tom Cruise preaching about Scientology has been leaked onto the internet.

The Hollywood actor - a devout follower of the bizarre sci-fi cult - makes several absurd claims in the footage recorded after he collected the Freedom Medal of Valor from the religion's leader David Miscavige.

In one outburst, Tom claims only Scientologists can help in road accidents.

In the clip, which briefly appeared on video-sharing website YouTube before being removed, he says: "Being a Scientologist, when you drive past an accident, it's not like anyone else you drive past. You know you have to do something about it because you know you're the only one who can really help."

Tom also insists Scientology can save drug addicts, rehabilitate criminals and bring about world peace.

He says: "It's something you have to earn because a Scientologist has the ability to create new and better realities."

Tom - who was recently reported to be the religion's number two in command - is "dedicated" to bringing Scientology to the masses.

He adds: "I'd like to go on vacation and go and romp and play. But I can't because I know. I know I have to do something about it."

It is thought the strange video was never intended for broadcast and Tom is said to be furious it has been leaked.

Xenu got hold of YouTube and yanked the promo-but Gawker is hosting it and you can see the video here: Cruise

Are the scientologists going to descend on us like the christians did during the crusades? Kill everybody for not believing in their cult? Sounds like he's on the verge of doing just that. What a nutbar, and not just Tom, ALL of them. Worship a science fiction book? They must be lost and desperate to do such a thing. I'd feel sorry for them, but it's so stooopid that they're worshipping this little book that I just can't.

They're all morons.

sounds a little like the Jim Jones cult. This isn't Christianity! I've thought Tom was weird ever since the time he jumped on Oprah's couch, then had the run in with Matt Lauer on the Today Show about him knowing more about psychiatry. He's a weasel!

Obviousely Scientology's critics want to see Tom Cruise ruined, because he has made Scientology so well known. I'm much more interested in who is orchestrating these attacks on Tom Cruise. I hope more will be exposed about that person and what their hidden agenda is.

Scientology is nothing but a cult with a fancy name and well-known people hawking it, otherwise it would just be another group like the one headed by Jim Jones!

I have to say I am disappointed that you people are so bigoted. Spreading hate and vitriol you are certainly setting the tone of your own future. Just remember, it all comes back to you in the end - think about what kind of a society you're creating. I hope you never find yourself in a position of being persecuted for your beliefs.

Tom Cruise is a very scary person, and so is the belief in Scientology. It's just a society that was formed by an individual and has nothing whatsoever to do with religion. No one is spreading hate, just telling it like it is - there have been many cults over the years and there still are many in existence who try to control peoples' minds. Some appear to do a very good job at it!

Christianity and Scientology are not the same thing. Before you decide to compare a 2000 year old religion to a modern day science fiction celebrity cult, please do some reading.

@Heather - I don't see where anyone is comparing Christianity with Scientology - quite the opposite!

Maybe Heather got all pissed about the dude at 'What Next' saying: 'Are the scientologists going to descend on us like the christians did during the crusades.' Man, this whole science fiction thing is out of this world. People will worship anything these days. I had a roomate with some strong and very strange religious beliefs, and was so good she could have started her own religion. It turns out she was in need of some pyshiatric medication. I sure am glad she did not get to start her own religion.

Some fragile souls are like sheep and would follow someone like Cruise in a heartbeat - he demonstrates a really self-important, full-of-himself demeanor - he is to be watched very carefully! His laugh is almost demonic!
