Im an American living in the UK. I've found that slapper is about the same as tramp, perhaps a bit stronger.

I reckon the book should be allowed to be published so that we get an insight as to what this man is like? It is not hard to believe he is a self obsessed with (few) behavioural problems. Cecilia has done us good by quiting and giving as some insight about the man.
