John Cleese has split from his wife after 19 years of marriage.
The 'Monty Python' star and Alyce Faye Eichelberger jointly decided to end their relationship and insist nobody else was involved.
A source said: "They just felt the relationship is not going to continue and I think they are very sad but fairly resolved about it."
The split comes after the comedian is understood to have become "melancholy" in recent months following the deaths of several close friends.
The couple - who are currently staying at their Californian home - both have children from previous marriages but none together.
John, 68, was previously married to Connie Booth, who he wrote the hit TV sitcom 'Fawlty Towers' with, before splitting in 1978.
He then wed Barbara Trentham in 1981 but they divorced in 1990.
Alyce is an US-born psychotherapist and works with teenagers and young adults at her private practice in London.
The couple previously split their time between their homes in London and Santa Barbara.
