New York (dpa_ - Top German model Heidi Klum has been sued by a French luxury jeweler Van Cleef & Arpels for allegedly copying one of their designs, US media reported Friday.
The jeweler claims in the Manhattan federal court filing that a clover design series of the 34-year-old model, sold by New York jeweler Mouawad, was taken from a motif already used by the French company. Van Cleef & Arpels is seeking 25,000 dollars in damages for copyright infringement, arguing the designs are so similar that they have caused confusion in the marketplace.
Mouawad head Pascal Mouawad said the suit against Klum has 'no merit.'
'It's clear that shapes like clovers, hearts, crosses ... are universal symbols and are commonly used in jewelry,' he was quoted as saying in OK Magazine.
