Actor Will Smith has stunned fans by reportedly declaring that Nazi dictator Adolf Hitler was essentially a "good" person.
In an interview with Scottish newspaper The Daily Record, the 39-year-old Men In Black star said he did not believe Hitler fully understood what effect his policies would have.
"Even Hitler didn't wake up going, 'Let me do the most evil thing I can do today," Smith told the newspaper in an interview.
"I think he woke up in the morning and using a twisted, backwards logic, he set out to do what he thought was 'good'.
"Stuff like that just needs reprogramming," Smith said.

Poor Will Smith, opens his hopelessly uneducated mouth right when it could hurt him the most.
Actually, around 13,000,000 Jews were tortured and murdered. Would Will be saying that Hitler was a nice guy if it were all black people he destroyed. How can genocide be a 'good thing'? This truly will be the gift that keeps on giving to Will - for the rest of his days.
If Hitler is so good how come he will rot in Hell forever, and everyone hopes and believes that it will be so? I wonder how Will would have felt being mercilessly experimented on until he dies by Dr. Mengele?
'It is better to keep your mouth shut and have people think you're ignorant, than to open your mouth and remove all doubt.'
If Adolph Hitler had not killed off so many intelligent people he would probably have won the War.
I agree with Will. If so called 'world leaders' are to be judged by their actions, Hitler is no different from Bush, Clinton, Lincoln, Castro, or any other leader who brings death and destruction to the masses. Hitler clearly thought he was doing the right thing. Bush thinks that he is doing the right thing. Kim Jong-il thinks that he does the right thing, and they are all basically 'good people'. So stop hating on Will Smith. He, like all of us, has an opinion, and no matter how much you disagree with it, it is just his opinion. Go see I AM LEGEND. Focus on that!
You sir are a moron.
You are all morons and the media is twisting everything they can. He didn't say Hitler is good. What he meant is that Hitler didn't think what he(Hitler) did is wrong. He even uses words like Twisted and Backwards Logic. Open your eyes and read what the man actually said.
calling smith ignorant is to display deep ignorance on the behalf of the poster. what he meant, in a stroke of rare insight for an american, and an actor at that, is that few people set out to do evil, but actually set out to do something they beleive is right. this is vital to understand if you want to understand history. that doesn't mean, or has anything to do with, if you think this person is right or wrong.
Speaking of uneducated; 13,000,000 million jews were not killed during the holocaust. Only about 6,000,000 were. The reason for Hitler's rise to power was a result of increased nationalism proceeding WWI. After WWI, Germany was in a depression similar to ours during the 30's. Hitler emerged with a plan to help Germany get its feet back underneath itself with Jews along with Blacks, gypsies, homosexuals, etc as scapegoats. The people of Germany, desperate, would accept any explaination to save themselves and their economy. His plan was in fact horrific and evil in itself, however in his mind it was for the general welfare of his country. Not to mention that historians have concluded that Hitler suffered from insanity, it is easy to see why he saw his plan as good while sane people like you and I can see that it was pure evil. Furthermore, any psychologist will tell you that every human being has the fundamental and instinctive formula to do good imbedded in their genes. Despite Hitler's mental state, he truly believed he was doing justice to his country.
hitler was a man with big ideas for his country to bring justice from the Jews in his eyes, yes most would look down on him with disgust, but everybody would definitly have to realise and come to the fact that everything he said he would do he done, he took over and exterminated those he did not like, not to say what he done was right.
his beliefe was his own.
I believe hitler was a good person, i must admit that he shouldnt of killed the amount of people that he killed. but look at it this way, jews run half the world as it is, if hitler didnt kill the jews back then, the whole world right now would be run by jews!
people just look at the bad side of him, have you ever thought to look at the good side of hitler???
the media make him out to be a bad person, for example, look at Bush, you think hes a good person? well think again! who do you think made 911 happen? the pentagon? and much more, george bush himself is a jew!
for once look at the good side of bad people and look at the bad side of so called good people!
Thank You.
Hitler was a very good boy when he was young and he was very religious. His bad actions were just a result of all the violence his father had toward him.
I am currently doing an assignment on hitler.
I also believe that hitler didn't really know or think what he was doing was evil or wrong, he just had alot of personal racism. He also wasn't cut out to be a leader because he didn't understand running a country. The only things he understood were war and pleasing his people's emotions and insecurities.
A user reports that Hitler will rot in hell forever. How does he know this? I , and many others are offended that this person believes he knows for a fact who goes to 'hell'. Is he all-knowing, is he a prophet, a deity, etc.?
Who is this person and what right does he have to state that someone is 'rotting in hell'.As a Christian I believe that Jesus forgives all who asks for forgiveness, even men who are perceived to be as 'evil'. There is good in everyone, do you know what Hitler did to fight cancer (the great enemy, he called it) , his advocacy for animal rights, his contributions to modern society ie the autobahn, the Apollo program, etc. .
Hitler led his country from the lowest point in history to a powerful nation filled with pride and honor. Even today, 60 + years later, spoken in whispers and hushes, most elder German citizens regard Adolf Hitler as a Hero, who brought Germany to its most grandeur glory in history. It was never proven that Hitler wanted the Jews killed, he actually deemed that to be too expensive in many ways. He wanted the Jews just deported from Germany.
Adolf Hitler was a genius and a leader of his country that the citizens loved. What more could the people look for in a leader?
Heil Hitler and God Bless, and I will pray that this person finds that there is more to this man than what is told through lies and misconceptions.
Bless you.
I love the good things about Hitler. I only wish his good side had triumphed completely over his dark side. If it had, probably, justifiably, his popularity would have been second only to that of Jesus.

I gotta agree with Smith on this one. Hitler certainly wasn't the best leader this planet has known. But he wasn't the devil that the allied media made him out to be. I mite just add that the only difference between the present President of the USofA and the former German leader is that Hitler was very well liked by all Germans - as opposed to we all know who isn't liked at all by the majority of his citizens.
