John Lennon lock proves the highlight of Beatles auction in Britain

London - A lock of John Lennon's hair was the prize piece at an auction Wednesday of Beatles' memorabilia in southern England where it was sold for 24,000 pounds (49,400 dollars) to an unnamed telephone bidder. It is expected to fetch 3,000-5,000 euros. EPA/GORRINGES The lock came from a collection held by Betty Glasow, a hairdresser on the Beatles' film sets of Hard Day's Night and Help in the 1960s. Accompanying it was a hand-written message which read: 'To Betty, lots of love and hair, from John Lennon xx.' Glasow, now in her 70s, was given the strands of hair after grooming the band's famous moptop styles. The lot was given a guide price of between 2,000 and 3,000 pounds, but bidding quickly spiralled, said Francesca Collin, of auction house Gorringes, in Worthing, Sussex in southern Britain.
