Kiefer Sutherland has been swamped with "a ton of fan mail" since beginning his 48-day jail sentence.
The actor - who is serving time in California's Glendale City Jail for driving under the influence (DUI) while already on probation for another drink-driving offence - has received more than 100 letters a day since starting his sentence last Wednesday (05.12.07).
John Balian, spokesman for the Glendale City Jail, said: "The guy has been getting a ton of fan mail. Easily more than 100 letters a day.
"He certainly seems to have a lot of support out there."
Sutherland - who has three stepchildren and one biological daughter from his two failed marriages - will be behind bars for Christmas and New Year, as well as his birthday on December 21.
The 40-year-old star - who plays counter terrorist agent Jack Bauer in hit US TV show '24' - has reportedly been a "model prisoner".
Balian said: "He's not happy to be here, but you can tell from his demeanour that he's sorry and takes responsibility for what he's done. He's a model prisoner."
As a 'worker inmate' Sutherland's duties have included folding laundry and serving meals to fellow inmates.
