Sir Michael Caine hates film remakes.
The 74-year-old actor, who is currently starring in a new version of 'Sleuth' after appearing in the 1972 original, admits he was very unsure about signing up for the project.
Caine revealed: "When they said they wanted to remake 'Sleuth', my first thought was, 'Why make it again at all?'
"I do not like remakes. It shows a lack of imagination. But once I saw the script for 'Sleuth' I realised it wasn't a remake at all. It was a brand new movie."
In the new version, Caine plays ageing writer Andrew Wyke, the role originally portrayed by Sir Laurence Olivier, while Jude Law plays struggling actor Milo Tindle - originally played by Caine.
Caine admits he was concerned about starring alongside Law, because he didn't approve of Law's remake of his classic movie 'Alfie'.
He said: "My Alfie had to ask, 'What's it all about', as he was a bit stupid. Jude's Alfie was too smart, too clever by half. I can understand why he said yes to the part, it probably seemed like a good idea at the time. An actor's life is full of decisions, some bad, some good."
