Jude Law insists fatherhood made him a better actor.

The 'Cold Mountain' star - who has three children, Rafferty, 11, Iris, 7, and five-year-old Rudy, with ex-wife Sadie Frost - only chose challenging roles during his marriage because he didn't want to be separated from his family for something meaningless.

The 35-year-old actor said: "I think your life affects your choices. In my 20s I was having children and being young and in a marriage, which meant the jobs had to be something special.

"The project had to be really great because I would have much rather have been at home with my babies."

Jude also says the recent dramas and upheaval in his private life has also affected his career choices.

The 'Alfie' star - who endured a high-profile split from Sienna Miller after he cheated on her with his children's nanny - said: "Your life changes and you go through some uncomfortable learning curves that affect how you see yourself. It's true to say there are a couple of decisions I made in the last couple of years which were purely, 'I'm living the drama - I don't really want to act it out. Let's go and do something fun, please!'"
