Britney Spears insists her positive drugs test was down to prescription medication.
The 'Toxic' singer, whose court-ordered urine sample returned a positive reading last week, denies any illegal substance abuse and claims the only drugs she has been taking have been prescribed by the court doctor.
A source told gossip website TMZ.com: "The only thing that comes on the results are the prescriptions, that the court doctor prescribed.
"There has been no illegal drugs or even alcohol in any of the test results."
The troubled star - who has to undergo random court-ordered drugs tests as part of the custody arrangements for her two sons with ex-husband Kevin Federline - has been attending counselling sessions in order to retain her visitation rights to her sons.
Meanwhile, Kevin's lawyer Mark Vincent Kaplan is considering whether to subpoena TMZ.com to hand over footage of Britney running a red light with her sons in the car.
Kaplan is hoping to use the video to support his request for Britney to be banned from driving while her children are in the vehicle.
Britney - who lost custody of Sean Preston, two, and 14-month-old Jayden James to Kevin after missing tests - is currently allowed two monitored daytime visits with her sons and one overnight stay.
