The Hollywood heartthrob finds it uncomfortable that so many women find him attractive and wishes people weren't so obsessed with his looks.
He said: "At first, it was absolutely great to discover I was attractive to women. I wouldn't say it was a total shock to me but it was a surprise and it was something that I enjoyed for a long time. But then it got out of hand and I began to see the negative aspects of it."
The 70-year-old actor is still lusted over by hoards of female fans, but hopes there will come a day when he is too old to be considered sexy.
He said: "It even happened last week when I was promoting 'Lions for Lambs'. I keep thinking, 'When do we get past this?' I can't speak for Europe but certainly in the US, there's an obsession with youth.
"People are trying to stay young by having plastic surgery, which is something I haven't done, but I don't think it does them any good. I keep thinking that I'll grow out of being labeled - I just don't understand it."
