Kate Middleton, the girlfriend of Britain's Prince William, quit her job yesterday (08.11.07) fuelling speculation the couple will soon announce their engagement.
The 25-year-old brunette told friends she was leaving her position as an accessories buyer for high-street fashion store Jigsaw because she wanted "some time to herself".
Kate was allowed to work just four days a week to accommodate her royal boyfriend's schedule and her decision to quit the job has caused controversy among her co-workers who believe she is getting "special treatment".
One of Kate's colleagues at Jigsaw told Britain's Daily Mail newspaper: "Kate is a nice enough girl but she was never what you might call committed to the job.
"She never worked full-time and appeared to take an inordinate amount of time off to go jetting round the world with her boyfriend.
"It certainly rubbed a few people here up the wrong way. To be told she would be resting for a while 'looking at other things' didn't exactly come as a surprise. She has always been treated as a special case."
Yesterday, Kate's bosses sent her off in style with an extravagant food and drink buffet in the canteen at the company's headquarters in the south west London.
Kate - who was given Jigsaw vouchers as her leaving present - then met with friends from the accessories department in the Kew Gardens Hotel at 4pm.
A friend revealed Kate is planning on pursuing her interest in photography now she is a 'lady of leisure'.
The pal said: "When she was asked what she was off to do she said she was a photographer and she may open a gallery."
However, royal insiders say her departure from the company hints she and Prince William - who met as students at Scotland's University of St Andrews - are ready to announce their engagement.
One insider said: "William knew that Kate wouldn't be able to still be working at Jigsaw when their engagement was announced, so has persuaded her to quit a few weeks in advance."

William has been such a disappointment that he fell for someone like Kate Middleton. Who knows... maybe they are made for each other two young people with privileged backgrounds... except William manages to make himself somewhat useful to society... unlike Kate... that girl is simply pathetic!
She's a social-climbing, royal wannabee. If that is what Prince William falls in love with... then I suppose they deserve each other!!!
i agree with people here who commented that kate never had a professional job at all. diana kept herself busy before marriage as a professional teacher, kate is a PROFESSIONAL SHOPPER AND CLUBBER!!!
Kate Middleton is a spoiled girl who is good for nothing.
Hopefully she ends up doing something more useful than just artsy photos with the money and power she will potentially have... the monarchy has to do something more for the world than travel the world and pursue personal hobbies...right?
Diana was not a 'professional teacher.' She had no professional qualifications of any kind, she couldn't even get any O-Levels. To teach, you need post-secondary education, and Diana wasn't capable of completing her secondary education. She worked as a part-time nursery school aide, and she was clearly just waiting around to get married.
