Cheryl Cole could have ended up a drug addict like Pete Doherty.
The Girls Aloud singer - who once dated a heroin addict, saw her brother take drugs and one of her friends die of a drugs overdose - is proud she was never tempted to take drugs herself.
Cheryl, 21, said: "Heroin was there for the taking. I could have easily taken that route if I'd wanted to. But I always maintained my ambition and I'm proud of myself. I wouldn't be sitting here with an amazing husband and an amazing house."
The singer also condemned Pete Doherty for glamorising drugs.
She raged: "Pete Doherty is not a poet. He writes s**t. He is a waste of fresh air. Why is he such a genius? Because he went out with Kate Moss? And he gets let off from jail. Kids think, 'Oh, he doesn't even get locked up.' More deserving people are on the waiting list for methadone every single day.
"It's not f***ing funny. Heroin is the latest trend. Teenagers think celebrities are having a wild time, living this amazing life."
Despite her own experiences with drug addicts Cheryl has no sympathy for them.
She added: "I don't have any sympathy for the addicts. That might sound harsh but I really don't give a f**k how they feel.
"If they're in pain because of drugs, it's self-inflicted. You know what you're doing when you take it."

and bush is on drugs and no one seems to care
for attention. ignore her. she has no right to be so negative and hateful towards drug addicts, they need help and support, not a b*tch like her spitting on them. they're addicts because of certain personality quirks, not because they're lowlifes. what a bimbo.

Pete Doherty says himself that drugs do terrible things to you and as has been seen over the past 2 months is making a serious effort to beat his addicition. I'm getting the sense that she has some jelousy issues with his media attention or something along the lines. And she is one to talk about poets i'm sure she's won many a poetry award and written all of her own music on her albums... oh wait she's a horrible pop star who has never written anything and sings songs that 'speak' to 7 year-olds. Maybe when she tries to put pen to paper she can say something about other people's talents.
