Naomi Watts doesn't believe she would have made it as an actress if she hadn't emigrated to Australia.
The 'Mulholland Drive' star - whose mother emigrated from Britain to Australia when she was 14 - believes there is less competition for actors Down Under.
Naomi said: "I wonder how different my life would have been if I'd stayed in Britain.
"I wonder if I even would've become an actor. I think I would. I always wanted to go to drama school. But there is less competition in Australia. Maybe in London I would've felt defeated."
The 39-year-old star confessed she hated Australia when she first arrived.
She said: "I was really upset about it, 14 and 15 is the age when you're establishing your peer group, and the whole idea of going to the other end of the Earth made me really sad. I was sad to be leaving.
"I sulked for the first six months but then I loved it. Australians are halfway between Americans and Brits."
Naomi - who now lives in New York with her actor lover Liev Schreiber and their three-month-old son Alexander - is going back to Australia for Christmas.
She said: "I've still got loads of friends there."
