Oprah Winfrey was recently diagnosed with a thyroid condition that is taking its toll her.
Over the past month Oprah hasn't been her usual radiant self, appearing tired on TV and heavier than usual — and her fans have noticed.
In a joint venture between O, The Oprah Magazine and her TV show, Oprah revealed her condition, saying she "literally ... blew out my thyroid."
In the new issue of O Magazine, Oprah writes, "My body was turning on me. First hyperthyroidism, which sped up my metabolism and left me unable to sleep for days. (Most people lose weight. I didn't.) Then hypothyroidism, which slowed down my metabolism and made me want to sleep all the time. (Most people gain weight. I did! Twenty pounds!)."
Oprah says it was stress and overworking that led to her condition, which caused to her massive weight gain and her haggard appearance.
"I decided to 'out' myself about my thyroid because I wanted so many other women who are going through the same thing to check on yourself and recognize," said Oprah, 53, who devoted Tuesday, Oct. 16's show to women's health. "It's an issue that we all share in common, especially if you're of a certain age."

I cannot believe you would have the audacity to say Oprah was just saying that because she wanted money. You Bev, are an inconsiderate woman, because I suffer of the same problem she did, and let me tell you its the worse feeling in the world. I dont wish it even on a dog what you feel. No one knows what you feel mentally, physically and emotionally, unless you have been through it before. Having thyroid problems can take a toll on your body if not taken care of early.
