Scarlett Johansson has made a huge donation to a Sri Lankan school.
The Hollywood beauty was so moved after spending time with children in the country's poverty-stricken Dalit community earlier this year she handed over enough money to "financially support them for the next three years".
Scarlett said: "The most gratifying opportunity was visiting a Dalit school. The Dalit community in Sri Lanka is considered the lowest status in the caste system, and children as young as four are working the fields.
"Hopefully the money I have given will financially support the school there for the next three years."
The 22-year-old actress travelled to India and Sri Lanka with aid workers from international charity group Oxfam.
Jeremy Hobbs, Oxfam's executive director, said: "By supporting Oxfam, Scarlett is taking a stand alongside millions of people globally who are working to overcome poverty."
Scarlett is now set to pay a visit to US troops fighting overseas for non-profit organisation USO (United Service Organizations).
Her representative said: "She will make the trip in early 2008 and for about a week. We can't give out more information than that for security reasons."
On Monday (15.10.07), Scarlett was honoured with the Icon award at Elle magazine's Women in Hollywood tribute at the Four Seasons Hotel in Beverly Hills.

I am from Sri Lanka, and I see this news is strange, if not a lie, because in Sri Lanka, you cannot see the Dalit caste as in India, but I can agree that threre is a caste system exists upto some extent though it is not visible as it is in India. But I can assure 200% that, here there is no any school based on the caste system. This is an insult to Sri Lankan Education System.
Seems as Oxfam has making a god money by manipulating the celebrity. Shame on you Oxfam!
