Wow, what a ridiculous piece of reporting. Scientology doesn't direct that children be handled as described in this article. This is a total fabrication.

What rubbish and manufactured 'facts' ! It is easy enough to read what Hubbard wrote about raising healthy and happy children. Simply go to ScientologyHandbook dot org and scroll down the right-hand side navigational links to the section: 'Children'

An excellent book that gives 'how-to' methods for parents is Child Dianetics sold on Ebay and Amazon.com Of particular importance are those methods to help a child quickly overcome emotional upsets.

The article states: 'because Scientology forbids it' -- False.
'to 'support' their child, not scold her'. True - and a good idea for any parent.
'A source said' -- probably the reporter at the next desk, HEH.
There is an underlying, most basic element. Good communication might come to a solid 'no !', but rarely. Good communication relies on discussion and understanding. These are far more effective with children, or with anyone.

really???Oct 19th, 2007 - 18:21:46

A know several scientologists and they have great families. The article is simply not substantiative in light of what I have seen and read about how they actually raise their children.

'If you know you're ready, that's good enough for us, kiddo. After all, you are an adult Thetan inside, even though your meat body isn't fully mature yet.'

This article isn't at all accurate from what I remember lo those many years ago. There is enough abuse from this cult without making stuff up ...

Better to pick on things like the dumb barley formula, early recruitment of kids onto staff, lack of formal education for kids, lack of parental supervision with children of staff, etc.

Oh yeah, and enforced or 'encouraged' abortions for Sea Org staff. Can anyone confirm or deny THAT in a magazine article?

James Lightfield is right! The article is pure nonsense. There are lots of really good ways to set people straight about Scientology but this parenting article just isn't one of them.

How about these for starters-- Scientology wastes people's lives, Scientology deludes people, Scientology takes people's money and gives little in return. They actually have a marriage course. Hubbard, bigamist and three times married should have taken it not written it. I think Cruise is on #3 wife too. Scientology has as Scripture fierce anti-homosexual rants. Scientology has as Scripture fierce anti- black rants. I am just getting started. So... write something true and meaningful about 'the cult of greed and power'. We don't need to hear this nonsense when there is so much a concerned journalist can really write about.

Say no to childabuseOct 26th, 2007 - 01:10:06

Whar kind of parenting skills did Donald Strawn have? How about Gabriel Williams? Maybe even Wally Hanks? Google those three individuals and see how scientologys 'belief' that children are 'big beings' trapped in little bodies.
Google taxexemptchildabuse and see what you dont know about children and scientology

Hubbard abused his own children, and scientologists claim he was a 'friend of mankind'? That is layghable once you look into hubbards past and tyhe parts of scientology the cult want hidden.

Oh please, Paris Hilton's parents never told her no and that turned out so well didn't it.

Really, we should take advice James and Terryeo from Hubbard who disowned his own son for being gay? Please enlighten us here on what Hubbard ever did that would make him fit to give this kind of advice?

Was it his three different wifes ( one he claimed he never was married to) Was it the fact that instead of being a good father and setting a good exsample of right and wrong, he at the time of his death was in hiding from a prison conviction for fraud?

Please tell us guys.

Reading this reminded me of a conversation I had 15 years ago, with a high level scientologist who admitted to me that he and his wife (trained counselors and 'OT's) let their kids continue to sleep in the same bed with them over the past few years and then didn't have the heart to undo the practice because the kids were too dependent on this arrangement.
The teachings of Scientology lean towards treating the child as an adult in a little body. Some members misconstrue this, aided by the ways of others members, to arrive at raising kids like Cruise and this other fellow who was clueless about how to raise kids so they don't get their way whenever they want it.

SCIENTOLOGY = CULTDec 16th, 2008 - 13:42:37

wow! you can cerainly tell the Scientologists in these comments! Huh James and Terryeo? Suri is on her way to becoming a Scientologist. VERY SAD indeed. And now I blame Katie Holmes's parents for not stepping in to save their daughter and their grandaughter.
Funny how Terryeo NEVER talks about the Sea Org. The Sea Org is Scientology's own little navy. Although they stay on land these days, (unless they are working on the abestos ridden Freewinds cruise ship).
There are several slave camps. One in Clearwater Fla, one in Gilman Hot Springs. And also in other countries world wide.
The Sea Org practices child abuse, sleep deprivation, sexual abuse, mind control, humiliation, unfair labor laws, elderly abuse and much more. They get paid 50 cents an hour (if at all) They have coerced abortions, family disconnection and little to no education. They do not have proper medical care and the list goes on.

I don't care what Scientologists believe in. It is unfortunate that they are ripping off their members and celebrities(who are kept in the dark about the Sea Org and Scientology's crimes) But when it comes to abused children and members, that's where I draw the line.

The Sea Org MUST be abolished.

Go to You Tube and search 'wally hanks'to hear an audio recording of a high level scientologist (OT 8) beating a kid while telling him to 'look at the picture of L. Ron Hubbard'. He got away with this and worse with the help of the cult.
