Reese Witherspoon finds it difficult to trust people.
The Oscar-winning actress, whose divorce from Ryan Phillippe was finalised this week, claims she struggles to develop string relationships because her mother raised her to only depend on herself.
Reese said: "I never rest on anyone else's ideas of what they are going to do for me. If you want something done, do it yourself. I have operated under that sensibility for a very long time.
"My mother impressed that on me at a very early age."
In new movie 'Rendition', Reese plays the wife of an American-Egyptian chemical engineer who goes missing after boarding a flight from Cape Town, South Africa.
She later learns he is a suspected terrorist who has been "rendered" by the CIA to a North African country to be interrogated.
Reese, 31, admits shooting the movie was very "difficult" and "isolating".
Reese said: "It was really difficult. It was really challenging playing that bewilderment and isolation and confusion. My character doesn't know what she is dealing with.
"It was hard, sad, alienating and isolating."
