Britney Spears has been offered the opportunity to write an autobiography in a bid to save her career.
The troubled singer - who recently lost custody of her two sons to ex-husband Kevin Federline - has been approached by author Bruce Littlefield to help write her life story.
The writer - who was asked a few years ago by Britney's then-manager Larry Rudolph if he would be interested in working on a book with her - believes she would be able to "find herself" if she wrote an in-depth account of her life.
Littlefield told the New York Daily News newspaper: "Taking a step back and doing a book would be the best life and career move she could now make. She can find herself by doing the book. She certainly is not finding it by letting it all hang out."
The 25-year-old star has seen her life spiral out of control since she split from Kevin in November last year.
She has partied wildly, allegedly taken drugs, entered rehab, publicly shaved her head and her disastrous comeback performance at the recent MTV Video Music Awards was panned by the critics.
Britney was ordered by a judge to hand over two-year-old Sean Preston and one-year-old Jayden James to Kevin after she failed to attend a drugs test.

bet you didn't know geo. w . bush is an idiot did you? lol
She can't do that. The courts have imposed a gag order on a lot of issues relative to her behavior. There are small children affected by her life, after all. Plus, her talking might jeopardize the confidentiality agreements she has with all her employees. Once she opens that door, there's no turning back. The floodgates would open, and she would be even more ruined than she already is.
Um, no, that's not true.
Anybody- with or without small children- is free to write and publish their memoirs.
No judge is allowed to put a 'gag order' on Britney's life, which in fact belongs to her, not to the general public, and is hers to do what she wishes with.
Neither would any agreement she might have with her employees present an obstacle to her writing a book about any and every aspect of her own life.
What an idea.
...the goal here is to destroy a person. We have a press that has a history of destroying someone, for doing things that others merely take for granted.
Britney has appeared to want to constantly be in the public eye, whether it's good or bad - she thrives on it from all appearances, is extremely immature, and, sadly, seems to not be very bright!!
And many people are anxious to take advantage of her shortcomings!!
Wouldn't it be great to see Britney and Whitney make come backs : )
The press doesn't destroy a person, they do that themselves (eg. Spears, Houston, Craig). The Spears', Lohan's, etc. should take heed of what happened to Anna Nicole, another nobody who thought she could be someone.
Sadly, the majority of people caught-up in the crash of Britney don't read books. They read online gossip mongering content and spend their days playing with MySpace and YouTube, and watch television shows like Survivor, Big Brother, Inside Edition and Fox News. They have no time to read and have very short attention spans.
The majority of people that buy books do not fall into this wasting lifestyle. They are in the over 35 demographic and really don't give a crap about her and her watch-me-self-destruct life. They have their own issues to deal with - like keeping their jobs, homes and their children far away from anything to do with Britney.
I'd bet you're a bigger idiot than George!
And why would anyone want to buy this book? - maybe only the intelligent ones, because they don't watch TV?? LOL!
...destroy her. The libnazi elite press hates her. She's a successful, wealthy southerner from a modest family who made zillions, and they want to destroy her, at the very least, for their own careers. At most, it's liberal bigotry.
This little girl sold 20(?) million records by age 22. She was a phenomena. There is nothing the press loves more than to put a person like her into an early grave. All the signs are there: Dr. Phil, who I don't believe ever treated her, seems to think he can diagnose through the press. HE should have his license taken.
Yep, destroy her.
At the end of the day, Britney is just a human being, just like you and me. The difference for her is in the fact that she is famous, missed out on childhood, has lots of power through wealth, has been indulged for years while very young and the apparent fact that she is really needy for lots of attention. Look how much attention she needs and even more so from a doting male.
Let's not forget how the press attacked then husband Kevin, calling him a loser, a gold-digger, among other things, and the assumption that he dragged her down.
In truth, I believe that the real Britney, likes a guy like Kevin. She loved him and wanted to have a family with him, but the press constantly picked on the couple. They were doomed from day one! But, she looked really happy in the photos while together.
I read those stories at the time and I thought he was a jerk, but it was never my business to decide who another person loves! That's her choice to make, not ours!
When Britney was young, she was told what to do, how to do it and how to present herself. Now, as an adult, she's made bad choices for herself and spiralled out of control.
So what's a young super star to do? She probably had a tantrum, giving in to public opinion about party hearty Kevin and walked away rather than try to address their problematic marriage.
Kevin's always presented himself as having many short-comings, so it was no surprise that he continued with his bad boy ways after the kids came along.
And then, boom, she dumps him via text message.
That was the beginning of Britney's 'publicly' known sad story. If she does get diagnosed as having postpartum depression or any other kind of emotional ailment, then the media should lay off and show a little compassion for the girl...for favorite meal ticket Britney.
It may even be possible, though I doubt it, that money is not the only thing on Kevin's mind. Maybe he does have a heart and decided to do the right thing by his boys and their mother?
Believe me, I'm not praising Kevin, but he's young too and maybe he is trying to change. Maybe he knows she lost her sense of direction in life and now he's decided to make it right.
Fortunately, Britney's family is back in the picture, making me hopeful that they will all go to counseling as a family to help 'their' child. One mustn't forget how young she really might be, from an emotional standpoint. Developmentally, she's probably still a teenager.
While I think the judge did right in his decision, I believe that the tabloids and media should put a little positive spin on Britney, for the sake of her recovery.
After all, she has been the golden goose that has laid thousands of golden eggs for their benefit!
Britney, please accept help and listen to your mother & professional counselors, put your life in perspective, and get your boys back when you've become stable and responsible. I truly wish you well. SS
The liberal press want to destroy her because she is a successful, wealthy southerner? You have been listening to too much Rush Limbaugh, friend.
She destroyed herself, with her family's help. All the media did was document her downward spiral. Plenty of other stars, even ones from the south, do a good job of being successful, wealthy, and not trashing their lives by being completely irresponsible. Britney's fame and wealth, and her inability to handle it, are what ruined her, nothing else.
I totally agree with Todd!! This pretty simple story has way too many analyists out there who want to make this a complicated one and think they can delve into a a person's mind and come up with this great psycho babble - baloney!!
