Rachel McAdams - © Glenn Harris / PhotorazziThe Hollywood actresses will join Brad Pitt and Edward Norton in the political thriller, which is based on a British TV series of the same name.The film sees Norton play congressman Stephen Collins, whose political rise is threatened by an investigation into the death of his mistress, while Pitt stars as his journalist friend Cal McAffrey, who investigates the scandal for the Washington Globe newspaper.Mirren is set to play the paper's tough editor, while 'Mean Girls' star McAdams, 30, will portray its youngest reporter, who gets caught up in the investigation.Wright Penn, 41, has signed up for the role of the congressman's estranged wife, who develops a romantic relationship with Pitt's journalist as he begins to uncover a political scandal which strongly implicates the politician.Earlier this week, it was announced that 'The Kingdom' star Jason Bateman will also appear in the film as another journalist on the Washington Globe.'State of Play' is directed by 'The Last King of Scotland' director Kevin MacDonald, and is due to begin shooting in November.(C) BANG Media International
