"24" star Kiefer Sutherland was arrested early Tuesday on misdemeanor drunk driving charges after failing a field sobriety test, police officials said.
The actor was pulled over at about 1:10 a.m. in West Los Angeles after officers spotted him making an illegal U-turn, said Officer Kevin Maiberger.
Sutherland, 40, tested over the state's legal blood alcohol limit of .08 percent, and was arrested on a misdemeanor charge of driving under the influence, Officer Karen Smith said.
Kiefer was released around 4 a.m. after posting $25,000 bail, according to the Sheriff's Department records.
Sutherland was scheduled to appear in court Oct. 16.
Sutherland, who plays Jack Bauer, won a best actor Emmy award last year for his performance on the Fox TV series "24."
The series premieres over two nights in January, 2008.

I am baffled by the mentality of these actors, actresses and celebs that are often being busted for DUI, as well as drug addiction and abuse.
They know they are public figures and so the public would always hold them at a higher stand. This should be the reason why they must always strive to behave themselves.
But instead what we read about them all the time is how irresponsible and naughty they are.
They have money and can afford to hire a chauffeur or a driver or a limo to drive them to and back from the bars where they go to drink.
There is no reason why they should be DUI.
For this reason, the law should treat them more harshly than the average citizen to set an example.
DUI can be dangerous because it can destroy innocent lives.
Hollywood should stop giving acting roles to actors, actresses and celebs who continuously drive while intoxicated or abuse drugs and people should start boycotting their movies and TV shows and stop fawning over them to send strong messages to these brainless twits that their irresponsible behaviors are dangerous and unacceptable.
It is bad enough how they make millions of dollars (that they don’t deserve), acting in movies and TV shows that glorify violence, murder, sexual depravity, war, racism, homosexuality, bestiality, necrophilia, sado-masochism and every type of immorality and decadence that pollute and destroy the sanity of the society. To be driving under influence is like adding salt to the injury and rubbing our noses to it and this should stop.
