The 'Panic Room' actress insists her aim as an actress is to make films so "excellent" she thinks they can "change lives".
She said: "I have only portrayed people I can connect with. I could settle for making good movies, but why bother when you can make excellent movies that change lives? If I say yes to a picture, it's because I want to die for it."
The 44-year-old star - who won two Best Actress Oscars in her 20s for her performances in 'The Accused' and 'The Silence of the Lambs', also claims she could have made a lot more money if she hadn't been so selective about her roles.
She added: "After my two Oscars I could have made a tremendous amount of money in an incredibly short space of time making movies I didn't care about. But for me, being famous is unimportant."
Although she doesn't actively chase big pay days, Foster picked up a staggering £7.5 million for starring in her latest movie 'The Brave One'.
In the movie - released this month - she plays a woman who sets out for revenge after watching her husband get beaten to death.
