Amy Winehouse's mother says she no longer recognises her troubled daughter.
Janis Winehouse is so concerned about Amy's wellbeing she has taken over control of her finances in a desperate bid to stop her buying drugs.
She said: "I send her text messages, saying, 'Where are you, what planet are you on? Call me.'
"Amy is playing Russian roulette with her health and musical gift. She's lost herself. We're not talking about my Amy. It's not someone I recognise. She has become her own stage creation."
Despite her best efforts to support her daughter, the 52-year-old realises the only person who can help Amy get clean is Amy herself.
She told Britain's First magazine: "I knew she was smoking marijuana but not that she was doing class A drugs until she collapsed. She won't stop until she sees the point of stopping. When I saw her afterwards, I did not tell her to clean up, there was no point.
"I know all about class A drugs. I understand the process where the brain shuts out everything except the drugs. Talking to her about it won't make any difference."
Amy, 23, collapsed last month after overdosing on a cocktail of drugs and had to be rushed to hospital.
She and husband Blake Fielder-Civil then checked into a British rehab centre but discharged themselves days later.
