Steve Coogan's angry Love letter
Sep 6, 2007, 11:04 GMT
Steve Coogan's lawyer has sent Courtney Love an angry letter accusing her of using Owen Wilson's suicide attempt as an excuse to personally attack him.
Last week, the former Hole singer claimed she had warned Wilson her ex was a bad influence, and Coogan's legal team have now responded with a warning letter.
The legal communication states Coogan, 41, and Wilson, 38, have "never used drugs together."
Coogan's lawyer wrote: "Coogan is concerned about Mr. Wilson. Your purported concern seems much less likely than your apparent interest in publicly maligning my client."
A representative for Love has refused to comment.
The rocker, the widow of Nirvana star Kurt Cobain, claimed Coogan was to blame for getting Wilson involved in drugs, leading to a downward spiral culminating in him slashing his wrists on August 26.
Love said at the time: "Under normal circumstances, I wouldn't comment but I care too much about Owen. I went through this with Steve. I was just out of rehab and he was right there with the drugs. I tried to warn Owen. I tried to warn his friends."
Coogan vehemently denied any involvement in the tragedy, saying: "My thoughts are with my friend Owen at this difficult time, but I do want to set the record straight and say that the allegations published today are completely and utterly false."
