London - British pop singer Elton John Thursday paid tribute to Italian tenor Luciano Pavarotti, recalling joint appearances on stage.
'It's a sad day for music and a sad day for the world,' said Sir Elton in a statement in London.
He sang the duet Live Like Horses with Pavarotti in 1996.
Pavarotti and Sir Elton were friends, and the Italian singer, like the British pop star, had originally been scheduled to perform at the funeral of Princess Diana, 10 years ago this Thursday.
While Sir Elton performed his song Candle in the Wind, Pavarotti turned down the invitation to sing at Diana's funeral because he said he was 'too upset' by her death.
