The 'Lord of the Rings' actor stars in the celebrity pets calendar - which is raising funds for animal charity PDSA - along with TV presenter Kate Garraway and her black-and-white rescue cat Scamp, and 'Emmerdale' actress Adele Silva with her dogs Misty and Buster.
A spokesperson for PDSA said: "These twelve 'pawtraits' really capture the special relationship and close bond between celebrities and their pets."
The stars and their photogenic pets will all be snapped by celebrity photographer Jason Fraser.
Fraser said: "I know only too well how pets bring continuous joy and unconditional love to their owners, as Gracie my dog does for me. Animal welfare is very close to my heart and I am honoured to be part of the great charitable work carried out by PDSA."
Sales from the calendar will go towards providing free veterinary care for the sick and injured pets of those unable to afford veterinary fees at PDSA's 47 PetAid hospitals and branches all over the country.
PDSA's Pet Pawtraits 2008 calendar will be available to buy for £4.99 from September 7 in all PDSA charity shops around the UK, and online at www.pdsa.org.uk/petpawtraits
