Owen mess: Courtney Love blames Coogan

Courtney Love claims Steve Coogan is partly to blame for Owen Wilson's suicide attempt, it has been reported.

The former Hole singer - who has previously dated Coogan - has allegedly branded the wild British actor a bad influence on Wilson and claimed the comedian pushed the 'Wedding Crashers' star into a downward spiral of drug use.

Love was quoted as saying: "Under normal circumstances I wouldn't comment but I care too much about Owen.

"I went through it with Steve. I tried to warn Owen. I tried to warn his friends."

Coogan's spokeswoman has slammed Love's claims, saying: "These accusations are unfounded, unhelpful and hurtful to all concerned. We are taking legal advice."

Wilson and Coogan, who became friends when the British star moved to Los Angeles, were set to work together on Ben Stiller's new comedy 'Tropic Thunder'.

However, Wilson has pulled out of the movie in order to concentrate on recovering from his suicide bid.

Last year, Coogan denied claims Love was carrying his baby following a brief fling.

Wilson allegedly overdosed on a cocktail of crystal meth and prescription medication Oxycodone dubbed 'hillbilly heroin' before slashing his wrists on Sunday (26.08.07).

He released a statement, on Tuesday (28.08.07), saying: "I ask that the media allow me to receive care and heal in private during this difficult time."
