Owen Wilson's story gets confusing

Stories placed that a break-up with Kate Hudson and the unraveling at the sight of a photo of her and new beau Dax Shepard are being cited by some in the media as the catalyst that sent Owen Wilson over the edge.

Not so, says Hollywood reporter Janet Charlton, who claims Owen Wilson has a lawyer in place giving statements that drugs had nothing to do with the actor's downward spiral.

Drugs are the death knell to film insurers who will not underwrite a production if the lead actor has a substance abuse history, or any known active drug history for that matter.

Right now IMDB.com lists Wilson's films as Marley & Me (2008) in pre-production - Outsourced (2008) also in pre-production and in talks,  Tropic Thunder (2008) (filming-Owen replaced) and "Drillbit Taylor" (2008) in post-production.  "The Darjeeling Limited" (2007) as Francis is yet to be released.

Charlton writes that Owen's camp is "thrilled that the press has decided that he attempted suicide because of his bustup with Kate Hudson. It's a very logical explanation for his highly unexpected behavior. Looks good on paper. Plus it sounds touching and romantic - but it couldn't be FARTHER from the truth."

Charlton continues, "Owen is the one who broke off their relationship. Right now he's in the psycho ward at Cedars and needs a plausible explanation for his actions because he doesn't want the truth to come out.

Hollywood insiders are buzzing that Owen's problem is drugs, not women. They speculate that the drugs he'd been using made him depressed and drove him to attempt suicide. Why else would he have a high-powered lawyer at his bedside?"

I love the way the media is reporting that Owen Wilson has requested some privacy and yet they keep this in the news every single day. Yes, many of us read stories about famous people as a 'guilty pleasure' but being famous does not mean you are automatically stripped of all your rights to privacy. Mr. Wilson has requested to be left alone during this difficult time. Please show us that the media is comprised of compassionate human beings - give this man a break and let him recuperate in peace.

As an actor he acts, his roles are charming and poetic, to some inspiring. However, like many that are create wealth in Hollywood, his life is owned by the public domain and his life and its inter-workings are ours to scrutinize. Like politicians they wield influence and power and it is the press and its ability to report (and seek the truth) freely which keeps us from being bewitched by the content of our imaginations.

Keep the stories coming! Especially for those of us that have been bewitched-- free us from our self-deception.

Couldn't he simply be depressed - or manic/depressive? Suicide doesn't need more explanation than that. 'Psycho ward' - nice way to handle an illness 1/3 of Americans go through at some point in life. Show some empathy. Normal people go through this sometimes.

GregAug 30th, 2007 - 20:39:10

What's funny is that when normal people go through this, no one cares. All of a sudden, everyone has a broken heart because an actor is currently going through it? We don't know this man. We know nothing of how he thinks or his thoughts on life. We need to stop commenting on celebrities as if we all know them. They are human beings that face the same emotions and emotional breakdowns that the rest of us do. Leave him alone and let him deal with this time of his life like you would any other random person on the planet.

I am so with Greg on this one. It disturbs me how everyone is so interested in the lives of people they don't even know. Believe it not, they sit on the toilet the same way I do. Not so attractive anymore huh?
The more interest we show, the more money they make, the more envious the public gets...do you see the vicious cycle? I only read this story because it was sent to me. Normally, I could care less. I will say this, I feel for Owen. I pray for his privacy and his sanity.

I think Mr. Owen is one of the funniest guys on the screen today. He brings a good laugh into the moment where once we step back outside the theatre, we are back into reality called 'EARTH' which is so corrupted by the 'REAL IDIOTS' in our government. Or are you guys paid to write crap like you do in order to try to get peoples minds off of the real issues.

So Mr. Owen had a bad day. 'Boo #&$@ing Hoo!' Leave him alone and see what you monsters can do to get the real 'Monsters' out of the White House. Then again, white represents purity dosen't it? So it shouldn't it be more like 'The Off white House'. Bunch of Idiots!

Star By Far

If privacy is what he wants then he should not be star, he has earned by giving us an illusion about his feelings through acting. Now we know how he feels so why can we know what he thinks.

Being a star is not easy; they must get used to media intrusion or retire. I am sorry for his condition, but he is my favorite star and I want to know what happened and why. I pay for his upkeep and he must keep me informed.

Sorry Wilson I hop you get well soon

Men don't just nilly willy slit their wrists for the hell of it.
Deeply depressed men open their mouths and eat bullets or hang themselves.

Drug addicts, like Wilson who is a known user in Hollywood, do things like he did, dramatic over the top 'help me' attentio grabbing things.
Hello-Amy Winehouse and Blake? scratchy bloody faces and brawls and benders?

and he broke up with Kate to see another woman-he dumped her.

That blogger Janet Charlton is right about this one-100%

The lawyer is trying to keep Owen bankable for work-so he isn't tossed off pending projects.

what makes Owen's drama any less news worthy in people section than Anna Nicole? because he is a 'serious: actor?

I'm just sick of the whole Hollywood 'attitude,' star or not. People should not be automatically entitled to anything, regardless of their status, and those who are caught up in the b.s. fantasy they build around themselves should use Mr. Wilson as an example. His problems may not be celebrity-related, but the fact that he IS a famous actor/personality/celeb does not help his situation.

A lot of you are complaining that the media should leave him alone and should give him privacy. Of course that is true and is the right thing to do, but with people like us reading it they won't stop. In theory we shouldn't be reading it and they shouldn't be writing it, but how can you guys read the articles then complain they are there?

Anyway, I feel awful that any human being would be driven to such measures. It is sad no matter who the person is or the reasons. Celebrity or not I do wish the guy well. It is a little scary. A person must feel quite desperate to take such measures.

I would have never guessed in a million years that Owen Wilson was dabbling in drugs, and was depressed. It just goes to show that anybody you know could be depressed, possibly taking drugs, and thinking of suicide. Behavior is complex, so it's hard for anybody, even Owen Wilson (or his doctor, for that matter), to tell you exactly why he went and attempted suicide. All we can do is speculate, but I agree with everybody, I don't think that's the important thing here for us to do. He does need privacy right now more than ever, and I'm sure his family is watching after him. His story reflects at least something in everybody, that's why we should care about what's happening, and we do care. I hope this story wakes some people up about how probably a lot of people around them, that are close to them, are feeling the way Owen did. My heart goes out to him, and I hope he can take his time and make a full recovery. And at the very least stay away from those drugs.

He has been asked to be left alone, the reason behind why he did this is really none of our business. This is a terrible time for him and his family and I think he should be left alone. Just because he is a celebrity does not mean he has the perfect life with no problems, nor does it mean he is on drugs. He is a human being just like the rest of us and like the rest of us he deserves his privacy and time to heal, physically as well as emotionally. The least you can do is be a little kinder, like not refering to the treatmean facility he is in as the pyscho ward. How tactless can you be?

It is truly saddening to hear that someone has tried to take their life in any manner. But if had such a 'drug Problem' as the media is protraying; then he cant be very truthfull about offing himself. If I was addicted to cocaine and heroin I am sure I could of OD'ed.

Sad as it is I see this as an attempt to get attention from whoever he is trying to get attention from to make his Life right. When as we all know it is truly all ready in himself. Apparently a simple phone call to a good friend wasnt the answer in this case, as it used to be 'back in the day'. As a famous Clinton has said,' Free your mind, and your backside will follow'.

There is no scientific explanation for this yet. But, if more people took this seriously, there would be more creative, outgoing people like Owen Wilson, still walking this planet. Don't post things about privacy you believe to be some how owed to people making millions who CHOSE their career paths full well knowing media gets involved... Its the same game, if you want the story to go away, quit tuning in or reading these pages. its common sense here. How can you blame the media, as if it has control of you. its entertainment, and you tune in, and you make your own decisions. it is like blaming sugar because you are fat. it's your fault... choose what you eat, and choose what you believe.
