Amy Winehouse was left bloodied and bruised after a vicious fight with husband Blake Fielder-Civil.
The troubled 'Rehab' singer, whose frail arms were covered in scratches and bandages, ran screaming from London's Sanderson Hotel at 3.30am yesterday (23.08.07) as Blake chased her down the street yelling her name.
An onlooker says a hysterical Amy flagged down a black car and jumped in, but Blake - who was bleeding from deep scratches on his face and neck - was too far behind to notice.
He continued searching for her, looking in doorways and even bins.
A source said: "When the car got to Charing Cross, Amy ran to a shop for cigarettes. You could see she'd been in a fight. Her clothes were bloody and she was covered in scratches and bandages."
Another onlooker said: "Amy looked totally out of it. She was covered in blood and her make-up was badly smeared. Her eyes were glazed. It was as though she couldn't see anyone."
Amy also raised fears she is injecting heroin, after her feet were pictured covered in blood from wounds between her toes.
Heroin users can inject the drug into the space between their toes to prevent them getting 'track marks' on their arms.
The 23-year-old star agreed to meet Blake in Soho before returning to their £200-a-night hotel room at 4.30am.
Police questioned Amy about the incident, but she is refusing to make a complaint.
Friends claim it took five hours to calm Amy down after her terrifying ordeal.
One pal told Britain's The Sun newspaper: "We spoke to her without Blake in the room. It was soon clear she didn't want to pursue the matter. Despite her injuries she insisted he hadn't attacked her.
"She said she and Blake injected heroin on Wednesday night. She does it between her toes as it gets her high quicker. They started to fight after a row about drugs. She was a blood-stained mess. She looked like an extra from a slasher movie.
"Everyone is completely terrified she'll kill herself with drugs before the week is out."
Amy's brother Alex tried to visit her on Wednesday (22.08.07) after her worried family discovered she hadn't left her hotel room since Monday (20.08.07).
However, Blake ordered security to stop Alex entering the hotel.
The star's father, Mitch, dined with Amy and Blake later on Wednesday night and left the hotel at 10pm.
Amy and Blake continued drinking whiskey and playing pool with friends, until they returned to their hotel room at 2.40am. Less than an hour later, Amy ran screaming from the hotel.
Amy quit rehab for the second time on Sunday (19.08.07), following a suspected drug overdose earlier this month.

Oh boy. Our rock stars.
Whadya gonna do?
But look at it from her side: she's a really ugly one-hit wonder who had the precisely the right hit at precisely the right time. Pure luck.
She's got no looks, and talent to match. How else is she gonna stay in the limelight unless she does some scarey stuff with her guy.... you know?
I want to know what the worlds coming to. She has fame and fortune, yet she still feels the need to abuse drugs. I can't comprehend it.
Also, I don't think anyone can say that she doesn't have looks or talent. You might not think she's attractive, but the world doesn't revolve around you, your opinion isn't going to change anyhting. And unless you're a professional musician, I don't think you can say she doesn't have any talent, you may not like her music, but that doesn't mean she doesn't have talent. Apparently a producer thought she did.
This is going to end really well.
