does the National Association for the Advancement of Colored People stand on this issue?
Come on folks. Don Imus has already been completely smeared in the public arena. Everyone knows who he is and thinks him a bigot. This reeks of being a money/attention grabbing plot. Way to appear strong and let it roll off your back in April. But now, you want money. How sad. Man, people are just so sensitive these days. I have news for everyone. Life isn't fair, politically correct or nice. Sometimes you just have to be the bigger person and let it go. This action now truly casts this woman in a negative light.
This is the true color of what all these are about.
They accepted the appology but yet still sue for money.
I am calling you a pig now and lets go sue me.
Good for Kia Vaughn. Not one of the admirable young athletes of Rutgers deserved the despicable comments of a cheap sensationalist. I hope justice will be served.
What actual damage did Imus do to this woman? In fact , I am sure she has accepted monies or gifts for interviews. Imus deserves some of her cash. What Imus is getting is a rightful settlement for a breach of contract by his broadcaster, he is entitled and no one else deserves a penny of it.
Hey M&C!! You wrote 'nappy headed lawsuit' Does that mean the chick suing Imus can sue you too? You called her 'nappy headed' That's libel slander and defamation you know. Tee Hee.
Yes, I agree what a joke. She does have the right to sue, hopefully she will not be rewarded. Don is an idiot no doubt, but should not have to pay any monies.
Of course, if she wins I will gladly take a cut to help pay for my new Benz. Word to the people. Screw the community.
Rev Al.
one more case of the above.
save your brain, 'google' brain
It is unfortunate that individuals like bubba are allowed to walk around. Noone knows the implications ones comments can have than those who it adversely affects, this is how discrimination works, whether it is race, gender, creed, nationality. As an African-American male, I understand how it works daily. Unless you can put yourself in someone else's shoe, and understand there plight SHUT UP! It is because of persons like yourself why the world is the way it is.
How will a lawsuit restore the good name and reputation of the player? Receiving money won't make the person more credible. Actually, I find it makes her less so. It appears to damage her reputation rather than improve it. The firing of Don Imus and the humbling events that followed it give the players reputations credibility. A reasonable argument would be that they want compensation for the harm caused by his comments, emotional and otherwise.
Come to think of it, if she can sue Don Imus for ruining her reputation, maybe she owes Al Sharpton money for restoring it.
white people have had a cud full of double standards and stultifying PC speak,
When are you white folks going to learn the black folks 'have got your numbah' ?
Remember, anything you say can and WILL be used against you...even 'Good Morning'!....as is...
Sure he said Good Morning...but it was Good Night he had on his mind....and my sistah is a good girl she is...don' do nufin with the lights on!!
LAUGHABLE AND DEMEANING SUIT BY A COLLEGE ATTENDING PERSON WHO IS EITHER TRYING TO CATCH A GRAVY TRAIN OR DEMONSTRATING THAT HER EDUCATION HAS NOT ENABLED HER TO PLACE IMUS COMMENTS WHERE THEY BELONG.....IN THE TRASH. ALMOST EVERYONE REALISES THAT THE COMMENTS WERE STUPID AND BASELESS...EXCEPT THIS LADY..OR HER LAWYER PERHAPS.
It's unacceptable that says anything bad about anyone, anywhere, anytime. Will Ms. Vaughn be asking for one million dollars? Or perhaps two? I can't wait until she wins. Then using the precedent, I will be able sue everyone who ever called me name. I am going to be rich!
This isn't about slander or rewstoration of ones name, this is about lawyers fees.
And most of you are too dumb to understand what slander is.
What are we still in High school here? Someone one calls you a name and you have to sue them becuase they have deep pockets.
If all the money from the law suit, after the lawer takes his cut who is really the person who wants to sue so they can buy another house, was going some place other than her pocket then one might be able to think she for some reason was really hurt in the process.
She is going to be more famus than if she was the best woman basketball player on earth.
Typical. It was never about dignity but payback. It is not against the law to give an opinion the last time I checked.
The above commentor is correct, this is not a case of slander. The technical term is libel and he is admittedly guilty of this. Unless the players are in fact nappy headed ho's though that would have to be proven in court.
Imus profited from his firing as a result of his actions, why shouldn't the people who have been hurt have a share?
What the hell? Anybody can sue anybody. But the real dumbass here was Imus for sucking up to the mega racists Jesse Jackass and Al Sharkton.
I feel nothing but disgust for Kia Vaughn and her shyster attorney and hope that they not only don't make one red cent off this travesty but that they both suffer a SERIOUS loss of respect and all that goes with it for their actions.
Of course, Imus will settle with them, and the rest of the Rutger's women may well take their places in line weeping crocodile tears over their 'damaged reputations' and holding out their hands for their share of the booty. But I hope not. I hope that the rest of these women have the integrity Miss Vaughn and her slimy attorney clearly do not, and that we can all move on from this egregious abuse of the legal system and begin to stem the tide of America's obscene litigiousness.
Stunning,
Don Imus sues (reportedly a $120 million lawsuit) for breach-of-contract and you think that this girl being singled, put into the spotlight, and essentially branded for the rest of her life (and she will, I bet half of you would point if you remembered her face and saw her) because of this radio/television commentator is being 'greedy' or 'opportunistic' is just stunningly stupid.
Someone f's with me or my family (especially someone I have nothing to do with and has a public megaphone for whatever purported purposes), I'll pin them down, call them out, and make them pay, just as Imus felt he should with his employer.
I believe most people would have enough self respect to not sit in the corner after this uncalled for BS.
You People kill me.
During the biggest moments of her life as an athlete this young woman was intentionally thrust into a media frenzy due to the disguting remarks by an ignorant shock jock locking to boost his ratings a little more. So instead of focusing on practicing for the biggest game of her life, this young woman was dodging reporters and watching her likness on TV next to hate speech. How can you say there was no damage to her career? If you've ever played a sport you how important concentration is. WHy do you think 'off the court/field distractions' are follwoed so closely by ESPN. Please do not tell me that becasue Imus did not intened the frenzy he should be let off the hook. He's been around long enough to know what the media is capable of.
Was she not an athlete on a team that was poised to reach a national title? Was her concertartion and focus not disturbed by Imus' unfortnate comments and the media frenzy they caused. I think that is readily provable in court. I know its hard for some race baiting idiots to see past a black person getting money from a rich white guy but use some sense. This woman has potential to go to the WNBA and become a professional. Imus' actions affected the team in a negative way. He attacked them personally and made character claims that would concern any future employer ( Nappy Headed wasnt the only thing he said).
Let's face facts, Don Imus has to pay for what he has done. The socio-economic majority in this ocuntry has used the legal system to their advantage for years; filing lawsuits whenever it suits their purpose. Let's not pass jusdgement on a young woman who is doing nothing but participating in society. God Bless America. Where lawsuits determine right and wrong!
Don't be angry becasue she's playing the game you guys setup better than you are.
Sullied her name? I didn't know her name until now.
This is the thing…
I wouldn’t have minded if the Female population had trampled the First Amendment in order to make sure a child killer, rapist or anyone else who preys on the weak ever sees the light of day again. But they did it to get back at that 'wirey headed bigot' Imus for something he has the right to say.
If you think something he says is racist or insensitive then you go to the network advertisers, they take care of it. There’s no need to trample the First Amendment for a lump of poo like Imus.
Lastly I am a white kid who grew up in the hood, I learned the term “nappy headed”, “narrow behind”, “Bust yo head till the white meat shows”, ect, ect, ect,… from my black friends parents when they were in trouble. None of those terms were used in the house I grew up in, I had to Yes Sir & No Ma’am all adults, no matter the color.
she will get millions because we are so afraid of black people and being called raceists that she probabably will get about 10 million in a settlement.
too bad the duke boys cant sue someone but their white so nobody cares.
isny it amazing that we are more outraged about some drunk calling a spade a spade then some stripper trying to railroad 3 innocent me to prison for 30 years.
we are very sick people and deserve what we get.
oh by the way i think anyone who thinks oj is actually innocent is a freaking moron ok you black people get your lawyers and sue me, lol!!!
When Stevie Wonder wrote the lyrics, 'When I was a nappy headed boy', he established 'nappy headed' as simply a descriptive term regarding hair. If Imus used it to describe persons with kincky hair, so what! 'Ho' is a derogatory term almost universally used by rap musicians. Imus used it inappropriately and apologized in person to the women he insulted.
What is astounding is there has been no apology offered by any black broadcasting personality to the three duke lacrosse players who were falsely accused of rape. That trauma will follow them the rest of their lives. I only hope that they sue each and every broadcasting personality who falsely described them as rapists. At the top of the heap should be Sharpton and Jackson, two of the biggest hypocrites on the planet.
Miss Nappy-head is just making her look more pityful and Imus will probably make more money over it. I sure hope so, better than lawyers getting more.
How is an unspecified amount of money going to make situation any better? Imus said he was sorry for the comments he made and acknowledged that they were unfounded and degrading. He has already been punished, both publicly and though the loss of his job, and has expressed apology for what he did. His comments, I'm sorry Kia, did not permanently damage you and as a strong black woman you should realize that and move on with your life. Don't meddle with people who call you names. Get out there and kick butt on the basketball court to show people who you really are! Be the more mature person and accept his apology.
Come on come on! Of the $120 million that Mr.Imus has requested in his suit against his ex-employer for breach of contract, he reportedly is likely to 'settle' for $20 million. MAN how I wish I could say some stupid crap and get a windfall of $20 million for it! At the very LEAST it seems like he should split it with the counterparts to this silliness.
Freedom of speech. Done. Case Closed.
White Nazis can file (and recieve) a permit to march down main street waving nazi flags and signs that say anything they want about black people in general and specific black people.
All you leftist anti-war people can march with signs that accuse Bush and Rove of being baby killers, murderers and rapists.
Militant Black Muslims can march around calling white people names and accusing then of crimes they did not commit.
Gays and Lesbians are come under fire all the time.
This has nothing to do with race, or pride, or sticking it to the white man. This is about using the courts as an intimidation tactic to try and extort money from someone.
Until the courts enforce some frivilous lawsuit laws, this is legal and she has every right to go forward. I think it would be johnny beans if he fought her and ran up her legal bills.
Civil Rights apply to everyone, not just black people. Black celeberities need to grow up and realize that all famous people get attacked by the media. Can Rosie sue because people call her a fat lesbian pig?
I am surprised he didn't say anything about her looking like a man!
Isn't it ironic that I actually respected Kia Vaughn for the way she handled the situation? Not anymore.
'Stunning,' Imus' contract had a clause specifying that he could say controversial things to which some might take offense, and he was suing for 'breach of contract' for being fired after a tasteless but ultimately innocuous off-the-cuff remark. Vaughn and her snake-in-the-grass attorney are avariciously suing Imus for money neither deserve and abusing the legal system in the process. No one believes that because Imus called the entire team what he did in a moment of thoughtlessness, no doubt inspired by the reprehensible misogyny of hip-hop lyrics that blight our culture, that Vaughn was a prostitute, and her reputation suffered not one iota in the eyes of anyone with even half-a-brain and an iota of sanity. But I would venture to say that her reputation will now suffer profoundly as a huge proportion of people throughout the land now come to realize that Imus was right. Vaughn IS a 'ho.' Not in the literal sense, but in the figurative sense of one who prostitutes all semblance of her integrity for a quick and undeserved buck. She and her slimy attorney are despicable, and those who support them are almost equally so, in my humble opinion. Vaughn's calculated greed cloaked in self-righteous vindictiveness makes Imus' impulsive misstep pale by comparison.
Mr. Martingale:
Without the use of quotes, your storyline is in the same ignorant bad taste as Imus's original comment. You're on the wrong side of the line between being clever and being an ass.
the problem with this case is that after 5 months some money grabbing
lawyer con this girl into do this. I watch when Don Imus appologized to those
young women and I also was watching when he made the remarks. He didn't
call anyone of them indivually a napping headed ho, he was speaking in
general and so I am not sure how one person takes offense to that.
I had some black guys refer to some of us fellows as Honkies and it didn't
upset us. let it roll.
For the record, I'm not a Don Imus fan. I probably haven't watched/heard his show for 5 minutes throughout my 44 years. I think he's a jerk and that he and all of the other shock-jock types should be off the air. I find them all simply a source of air pollution.
However, let's face it; Don Imus was fired simply because he is white. If a black DJ had said the exact same thing in the same context the only people that would have ever heard about it are the unfortunate souls who happened to be tuned in at the time. How else can you explain the similar things (and much, much worse) things that we hear on the 'urban' stations all the time. Sad, but true.
The fact that Anus..er..Imus has settled with CBS and is slated to make a comeback gives the ladies of Rutgers good standing to file suit. I hope they win. This rednecked jerk should have been thrown in the dust bin years ago
datz dope, man! wut eva happin to freedum speech, yo! datz wuzup.
She got her fifteen minutes of fame, liked the taste, and now wants more. I hope Don gets back on the air and brings her on the show just to insult her again. What a joke...apology accepted but....you have money, I want some....how do I get it?????
A story like this sure brings the white racist bigots out from under their rocks. Imus has been smileingly poking at the line he knows is going to offend someone of some minority. Ever heard him insult rich white men? No? As a previous poster said no one here has any real idea what effect this may have on these women in the future. Lose your hate people. We all better learn to live together. Guess what? The Hippies were right. What we need is more love and less greed, hatred, bigotry, and selfishness.
Come on...she forgave the remarks. Does she even have grounds after that? It is all about the money. How cheap is that? He lost his job..he already had a bad reputation...She took him seriously..get with it!!
did da big bad white man say da big bad words dat made me cwy! boo hoo hoo! WAAAAAAAAA!
pussies.
If anything, Don Imus made the Rutgers girls team more popular. He allowed them to have plenty of time in the media where they appeared to be above the fray - too intelligent to get into it with the moron who spouted idiocies.
I am, in no way, a fan of Don Imus. I think that he should have been off the air a decade ago.
I also believe in the right of citizens to sue, and am proud that we have a system in place that allows individuals to take on corporations and the upper class - theoretically, anyway.
However, it is obvious that this player sees this as her opportunity to cash in and that is all this suit is about. I guarantee that the lawyer approached her about it. And, I understand the attraction to it. She is not going to be able to leave Rutgers and pick up a multi-million dollar NBA contract, and not everyone has the opportunity to grab some cash from and undeserving rich man in life.
But, even though she was in college when it happened, she is a public figure when playing these college basketball games and I cannot see how this case makes it to trial.
What Imus was doing is - technically - parody of a public figure and that is protected speech.
If Imus was a standup guy, he'd take some of his settlement from NBC and give each player a set sum - and have them sign papers saying that they won't press legal action further.
He should have done this from the start, but he's not the brightest bulb on the tree.
If she tries to bring this to court, she may win, but it will blacken the eye of our legal system even further. The question becomes, where does it stop?
I'm not a fan of slippery slope arguments, but music artists call women 'ho's' all the time. Can they be sued for slander? Is it the addition of 'nappy headed' that makes it slander?
This will need to be defined to the granular level because this will open the door to all sorts of suits if she wins.
I wish that she could bury Imus for this, but under the existing system, I just don't see it.
Can we possibly make this any more ridiculous? Get over it girl - you probably ended up with more popularity than you ever would have gained had the remark not been made. Too much was made of it in the first place - and now you can waste the courts time in a frivolous law suit. Please, put on your big girl panties and get on with it!
Kia who? What good name are we talking about? I'd never heard her name until just now. The fact is, this is just another anonymous loser who's tryng to cash in. How about a little common sense here? Drop the lawsuit and file it under '$54 million pants' or 'Multi-million dollar cup of coffee.' These lawsuts are a disgrace to our society. The sooner people learn to work for a living rather than sue for big lottery score, the sooner the country will be back on track. This suit is pathetic and should never see the light of day, either.
why is Imus satanic for saying nappy headed, but the title of this story, nappy headed lawsuit, is ok? to me, they are both needless descriptions
She is brave to put her sexual history at issue in court.
The freedom of speech amendment would cover any remarks by Don Imus if the subjects in question did have nappy heads. Now nappy heads dont neccessarily mean anything derogatory nor does kinky hair, curly hair or even dreadlocks. This lawsuit is motivated by greed because the nappy headed biatch cant get a job anyway else.
Right, I'm sure she was really emotionally scared. I was called much worse on the school playground. OK, so she just realized now that this traumatized her? . . . please. She should be sued for wasting the courts time.
You can only bring charges of libel against someone who puts falsehoods about you in PRINT. Since Imus was on the air, this charge is groundless. Slander is a little tougher to defend against but as an earlier poster mentioned slander refers to a pattern of false speech which this one time, indirect reference to a plural entity cannot possibly amount to.
This is so ridiculous. Everything about this is ridiculous. I think that the whole thing was a waste of time and money. Call Imus whatever you will. I personally don't think he is very funny on any level but many people did. All the rights groups will jump up in arms about how she should be compensated for her treatment. The only compensation that they are going to get is from the media that pays to exploit her even more than Imus did. get a clue people, pathetic.
apparently she is trying to get some money out of the deal or make a name for herself.
People are so thin skinned. if I got upset when called a faggot or wop or whitey or cracker by the black community or any community I would be dead.
Truth is a defense
Hello,
No I don't this young lady should be suing. He did apologize. If that is the case I'm going sue to some of my classmates I went to school with. Oh and some of my ex's too.
I do have one thing to say. That person name Sanity Rules or whatever your name is. Let's make sense here no Imus do not deserve none of her money!!!! That woman don't have half of the money Imus has!!!!
Maybe that's why she is suing!!! LOL!
I'm sure that dragging the court back into the public attention is the perfect way to make things right and move forward. I had forgotten about the nappy headed comments until this came up.
whore (hôr, hr)
n.

2. A person considered sexually promiscuous.
3. A person considered as having compromised principles for personal gain.
intr.v. whored, whor·ing, whores
1. To associate or have sexual relations with prostitutes or a prostitute.
2. To accept payment in exchange for sexual relations.
3. To compromise one's principles for personal gain.
I'm thinking that our poor victim here is starting to fall into definition #3 on both counts. They said in April that all they needed was a sincere apology. He gave them that. Now she is violating her own principles for cash. Looks like Imus was right in the first place. He should countersue her for misrepresenting herself and causing him to lose a great job. That, or the greedy little wench should move on with her life.
and IMUS should never, ever, pay one penny to any one of those girls!!
The women in question is over-sentistive and just chasing the ringing till as well.
Feminism appears to be alive and well her. I bet the woman who brought up the lawsuit is not working and if she wins (i hope not) then she never has to work again!!!
If she took this up in england she would be laughed out of court.
I know and so does everyone else that he should not of said what was but that's enough. There would not have been that big of a issue if he had been BLACK or any other color green blue yellow, you get my piont. I don't agree with him at all but people are way to serious and are to quick to sue. There is NO ONE AT ALL Nobody that hasn't thought a bad thing in their life!!!!He screwed up and he is sorry for saying it. He said things people shouldn't but still think it and if you say you don't your lieing!!! No one is perfect....Let still try to change and let it go.
So is Kia Vaughn also going to file lawsuits against any one of a number of so-called rap music 'musicians' for libel, slander and defamation as a result of their bigoted and misogynistic lyrics? What a joke it is to see the selective outrage targeted at this one talk show host who made this solitary comment. It would appear that the hateful, violent, and profanity laced rap and hip hop music lyrics and the people who deliver this filth to the listening public are much more 'debasing, demeaning, humiliating, and denigrating' to Vaughn, her fellow players, and other females in a much more pervasive way on a daily, repetitive basis, with a much wider audience than Imus had.
It would appear that rap and hip hop musicians employ the use of 'slanderous terms as intentional, and are motivated by greed and financial gain: In using insults against otherwise innocent people, rap and hip hop musicians and their producers get higher ratings, making more money for them and their employers.'
The hypocrisy of this selective outrage constitutes a sad commentary on our society. I hope the public at large realizes how damaging this double standard is to acheiving a true sense of justice.
Let's shine the light on the real culprits, Ms. Vaughn, and extend your lawsuit to a class action type agaisnt defamation from other sectors of the entertainment world, and if not, simply drop the Imus lawsuit, so as not to cloak yourself in this 'selective outrage' hypocrisy.
Those of you who are not part of the Rutgers community have no idea what the repercussions have been from this. Undue, unwarranted and uncivil attention was brought on the team, as well as constant annoyance by every media in the world. If you think that having constant phone calls, tv cameras, radio and press microphones in your face, following you around, parking their vans in front of your house, interfering with traffic, neighbors, and your personal life is okay, then you need to think twice. Those women can't go anywhere without someone asking, telling, commenting, on the situation. There is no more talk of basketball and team efforts. It's all about that scum bag idiot Imus. He should be held professionally responsible for his defamation. AND IT WAS DEFAMATION of character. Listen to his whole spiel and you will see that he thought the white girls on the other team were 'cute' but chose to call the Rutger's team 'whores'. If that's not defamation, then what is.
Why are black people always walking around with a chip on their shoulder? Has any of them listened to their own people's music?? Black Rap artists are terriable! They put down Black woman all the time! I do not see any black woman sueing them? If this was solely about what Don Imus said then this would have been over a long time ago. No, Black people (not all) have managed to carry all this hate around for a very long time and have managed to pass this on to the next generation. All of us face remarks against us in our life. People are cruel, this does not mean black people are owed something because they are black. Protests against the 'N' word, getting the Rapper's to clean up their language. These are things black people should do to help the black community break free from all of this. Quit feeding the fire and start putting water on it!!
What a crock.
In the US you can't even crack a joke without getting sued now.
The country is going to the dogs because of lawyers, religious zealots, greedy rich illegitimate children, so-called 'conservatives'(the only thing they want to conserve is their own grip on power, wealth, and the means to accumulate same), and the corrupt, dung besmeared, republican polititions they own.
Hey Ken, good point! Like I said before, when somebody sues for what this 'individual' is suing for, they have to prove that the person 'slandering' them (libel and defamation as well), caused them harm to their personal lives or careers. Nothing negative happened to any of them because of this. And as another posted mentioned above, it is usually something that has been put in writing that has harmed the person. And he wasn't talking about 'her', he was talking about the 'team' Anyway, which one is she in the pictures? IS she nappy-headed? That wouldn't be slander you know.
Get over it! It was in April. He apologized! Let's move on if we want to 'restore our name'.
This is BS, if that girl wants to sue someone for making her look bad she should sue theses rappers that call women far worse names. This is just a money maker for her and her nappy headed family!
Great, just what we need, a scholarship to study the impact 'bigoted and degogatory speech' on society created through a trumped-up lawsuit pursued by a woman who can't take a joke -- albeit a dumb joke
So now we're going to reward people who want to limit free speech with a scholarship.... sheesh. I may not like what Imus said but c'mon... as racist speech goes, it was rather tame and a lawsuit? Really? Of course, you'll notice that instead of Imus, she goes after the networks because they have deeper pockets. Reading between the lines, this suit isn't about defamation, it's about a young woman asking herself whether there's any way she can turn the media circus surrounding Imus into a nice, fat court-ordered paycheck.
No,gatorman, Imus' remarks were specific. He specifically said the Rutgers Women's Basketball team. I think if Imus said they were ugly beasts and not made any comment that could be linked to race like 'nappy-headed', it would be a different story. I personally hate Imus despite listening to him as a kid in the 70s. I would not expect anything other than
I'm actually surprised she is suing, but I would tend to think that the greedy lawyers hounded her. Let's just blame her for all of this since she is black.
If she just wants to go back to being an 'normal student', filing a huge lawsuit that's destined for national publicity is not the way to do it. But if she wants to cash to make the best of her situation, good for her.
I don't buy her 'poor victim' act, but i'll pretend to in order to see Imus get sticked.
This is the usual racial blackmail that is the foundation for much of the anger in this country. Call me a honky - can I sue? No. Will the Rev. Sharpen come to my defense? No. Will the Rainbow Collation come my defense? No. Shut up, get over it, move on - just like the honkies do.
Oh God and Baby Jesus Oh lord Oh boy !! Black people are turning into jews ! What are we going to do when they mug us and then sue us we won't have anything to wear but our shoe and glasses !
This IS ridiculous. This suit has no credibility and once it hits a jury it will be thrown out. At most Imus' people will offer to settle.
The people should take the deal.
So you can be sued for describing someones hair in an unflattering term? Don King and Donald Trump will be the richest men on the planet if this sets a precedent.
Blacks have become a permanently aggrieved, angry, fault finding culture of despair. Blacks have a permanent chip on their shoulder to actively look for ANY evidence of 'discrimination'. Permanent victims and whiners.
Basically this young lady has taken to heart that the highest calling in life is to sue someone over an overdramatized utterance.
Why has'nt the IRS audited Sharpton and Jackson yet. They have been shaking people down for like 30 years. By the way...did you see how far away he was and the posture of Jesse Jackson in the photographs from that fateful day when MLK jr. was killed. Take a good look at his face too.
AHHHH> a scandal.
If these college girls think that this Imus comment has ruined their reputation and lives they may need many more lessons in life and need to continue their education for many more years. At this point this lawyer has come up with a way to get in the news and the athlete involved is after money money money. This will ruin her reputation more than anything any one could say about her.
Grow up. Get over it. Get a job. Throw your crying towel in the laundry.
Don has had his run of the bigtime....He spent 20 yrs draining his brain in a manor he thought would gather an following........his brain is now empty, the only thing left is the basic bigotry that is the foundation of his character!!!! Take the $$. Retire. Leave the door open for others!!!
so should i file a lawsuit aginst the black man that call me a nasty ass cracker? i live in the south and have been just as racially discriminated aginst as those girls and im not suing! comon grow a pair and soldier the f up!
IF this ever sees a courtroom, the judge that gets it ought to throw them out on their frivoulous, gold-digging asses.
At least she can't say the nappy headed part isnt correct.
She should do something with her NAPPY HEAD!
OK, Don Imus screwed up. But this is exactly what is wrong with our society. This is just another frivolous lawsuit. The girls on that team were wronged, but this lawsuit makes - at least the girl suing - seem cheap and superficial.
Get a life lady. This just doesn't meet the definition of libel.
What a joke. Yet another money grab by some nappy headed... well, you know.
Now we go from stupid comments to extortion. Of course actual damages can't be proved, and maliciousness with intent to harm can't be proved. So the case will not go to trial...it will be settled. Poor Kia, someone who once stood tall and had honor, now finds a chance to 'stick it to the man.' Sigh.
The fact that this money grubbing basketball player is choosing to sue him at this point almost makes me forget that IMUS is a racist. This player is no more entitled to a cent of IMUS's money than a random homeless person begging for change out of a stranger's pocket.
She should be stripped of her ability to play college and professional sports for complete and utter abuse of the legal system. Oh and if I am wrong, then how come every individual from the team isn't filing their own lawsuit. She should use her brain to make some money and maybe write a book about the experience instead of filing a ridiculous lawsuit, that is if she is even capable of putting together a sentence. This totally disgusts me that she is pulling this out of her A** at this point, so far after the incident.
It's a shame that if you listen to Rap or R/B music that they so much worse about themselves in every song lyric and some of them are white also. Yet, someone rich says something and LET'S SUE!!!
Let's also sue each and every R/B title and producer for all of their music and lyrics. They're the ones who promote the image as being cool and make sure people see it every day all day. Quit jumping on the lawsuit bandwagon and making america look even stupider for suing someone for FREEDOM OF SPEACH!!!

'It is unfortunate that individuals like bubba are allowed to walk around.'
This comment is just as racist and sterotyped as what the controvercial artical is covering. Bubba? Does he mean 'a white guy'? Or is this incenuating that every person that does not share your views is some sort of racist, redneck, hillbilly, etc... choose your label. Everything and everybody has a label. Get over it.
By the way, please tell us what you would have instead of this 'bubba' person being able to walk around? Would you prefer him to be imprisoned, killed, crippled, hospitalized or exiled?
John could not be more wrong.
Imus got a multi-million dollar settlement from CBS.
He is reported to be going back on the air very soon.
this does not seem like any sort of harsh treatment.
I applaud these women for finally taking this mean-spirited man to civil court.
Don Imus swears he is not a bigot. And if he is not, those words should have never entered his mind as a thought, let alone spill forth from his mouth.
shame on him.
The world does not need to get over it.
What the world needs is - actually a small percentage of foul people need - to be put on notice that this type of behavior is simply not acceptable.
This has nothing to do with PC;
it's just good manners.
This lawsuit will never go to trial.
It will be settled and my fervent hope is that the final settlement will be whatever he got from CBS.
Jews have been the most oppressed people on this planet, but as a rule, you don't hear THEM whining and wanting to sue everyone over remarks made and name-calling. Should the Jews now sue Jesse Jackson over the remarks he made about them? Come on now - this is about money-grubbing, and nothing more. Do what the Jews did - pick yourself up by the boot-straps and DO something, instead of sitting around whining and looking for something for nothing. People make jokes about Jews because they WORK, and MAKE money. They don't sit around whining because their ancestors were slaves (which they were for far longer than blacks were). Not to mention the fact that NONE of these people were slaves, nor was anyone they try to get-over on these days ever a slave owner. Stop complaining and acting like the world owes you something, stop looking for reasons to take offense so you can sue 'whitey', and make an example of yourself for your own community - be an inspiration, and stop looking for pity or some kind of hand-out. Those who DO act like this and do for themselves by the sweat of their own brow are called 'Uncle Tom', instead of being venerated for what they have accomplished without the help of any Rainbow Coalition, the ACLU, or any of these other victimizing organizations who do nothing but foment hatred and keep pointing out the differences in people, making sure that we can't just 'all get along.'
Give me a break !!!!! This is why the U.S. has so many LAWYERS and why the Courts are backed up with B.S. Do we Honestly think this woman was damaged in anyway ??? The Lawyers get richer and the public gets more stupid everday. Especially when we have to listen to people like Al & Jesse, who I wonder if they have ever done an honest days work in their life !!!!! Help us TAXPAYERS out, don't tie up the courts with B.S.
Don Imus served a nappy headed lawsuit
I think Google and Monsters and Critics should be added to the lawsuit! He can't say it,(with freedom of speech laws). but they can print it? Hello?! Like nobody saw this law suit coming! They probably will all try to jump on this band wagon! Shows what their college education has given them or not! It sounds now like he called the way it really is all along! To bad a judge won't say it the way it really is or should be! She must be making her family proud, everyone wonder which ho would be first to act like one! George Johnson
What if that horsesass Imus had called the men's basketball team a bunch of nappy headed panty assed cocks...ers. What do you think the outcome would have been....You can bet your horsesass that it would have infuriated most of the male population and Imus would have had to eat a whole lot more of horseturds. How about if he said the Red Sox team were all 'cute' and the Yankees were a bunch of fat ass herpes sewer lickers and butt boys. Bet you guys would still be talking about that and bet you wouldn't 'get over it' quite so fast. Bet the Yankees would sue too.
'Jews have been the most oppressed people on this planet, but as a rule, you don't hear THEM whining and wanting to sue everyone over remarks made and name-calling.'
Wrong, the jews have the ADL which shakes down many people over what they say. The Anti Defamation League is Jewish owned and very aggressive regarding these things.
Jews cry as mush as the rest of the minorities.
Proud to be white.
'According to ABC, Vaughn's lawyer said that some of the money from any damages awarded in the lawsuit 'would be used to create a scholarship program to study the effects of bigoted and misogynistic speech on society.'
yeah right, Her and her money-grubbing lawyer are going to make a scholarship program fund with 'some' of the money...... i bet not 1% of that money will ever go for that. Besides i have heard black people call each other nappy headed and a whole lot worse. Had Imus been born black this would have been a non issue.
'study the effects of bigoted and misogynistic speech on society.' thats easy wnough to do.... just put in a snoop dog CD in a room full of people.... They will dance to the 'bigoted and misogynistic speech' so I guess thats the effect it has on society. That and an excuse to file a lawsuit and get some money.
This case and the lawyer that filed it should not be allowed in a court room again! They wonder what separates people and brings on racism! Question is what took this hoe so long to try to git rich quick! People have been saying it was going to happen, that the lack of their education would make them choose to git rich fast over what is suppose to be freedom of speech issue!
IMUS is the man. Of cource he is a bigot and guess what I don't despise him as an AA Male. I believe eveyone is entitled to their own views. He had his and he chose to share it he was not forcing his views so that everyone would start calling them names. Like a man he appologized publicly and lost one of his sources of income. Now If I called someone an idiot and its not true I should be sued by that someone just because?
Give me a freaking break he got his settlement for contract breach. That is his money. The whole team and the school itself got more press with imus than they did with their normal press methods.
Give me a break. Anyone can generalize it seems that the deeper your pockets or the more you speak your mind the more likely you are to have a nice suit filed by greedy people.
People listen to Imus because he doesn't water down the talk and stands behind what he says. That is a rare thing to find and it should be defended and not attcked.
I could care less about Imus he doesn't affect me and if people use what he says as gospel cause they can't form their thoughts then they should be sued for driving up litigation costs with lawsuits that waste time and delay real justice from being served.
People that instigate law suits like this should be fined for taxing the overburdened court system.
If you would just get rid of all lawyers and all blacks you wouldn't have this problem!
Do they consider arson a weapon of mass destruction? Could be a solution! Where does this nappy headed ho live as well as her parents?
Mam, quit your whinning and suck it up. People are dealt racist comments everyday, african americans being one of the worst violators. The next time I am called a cracker or hear an african american drop the N-Bomb, should I file a lawsuit everytime I hear the word and feel offended. Welcome to the real world.
You have to sue people like Imus because money is all they really care about. CBS did not fire him because they disagreed with his comments. They fired him because his comments might cost them money. Money is their god. Just like the adverage guy costing them money, if the amount is large enough, is a sure way to get thier attention.
Lawsuits will come out of the woodwork now that Imus has reached a settlement. Notice not one lawsuit against any rapper, or any other black person, for the use of the same terms in their public discourse. When they use such terms it only applies to every black woman -----
Don Imus is a bit better at what he does than the Rutgers women are at what they do, so far. Don will be just fine. This is just another strike against him but even after he strikes out there will be legions of loyals and new listeners tuning in wherever he goes. However, the Rutgers girls will have no such luck. They had an extremely limited exposure to THE WORLD and their 15 minutes of National fame was mired. Imus (as do you) knows that playing the Media for dollars is key to surviving as an Entertainer in America. As mentioned, Imus does it very well and has an impressive radio empire to show for it. So maybe, just maybe, we should refer to him as Professor. And maybe his first student is about to graduate to a settlement worth millions.
