I feel nothing but disgust for Kia Vaughn and her shyster attorney and hope that they not only don't make one red cent off this travesty but that they both suffer a SERIOUS loss of respect and all that goes with it for their actions.
Of course, Imus will settle with them, and the rest of the Rutger's women may well take their places in line weeping crocodile tears over their 'damaged reputations' and holding out their hands for their share of the booty. But I hope not. I hope that the rest of these women have the integrity Miss Vaughn and her slimy attorney clearly do not, and that we can all move on from this egregious abuse of the legal system and begin to stem the tide of America's obscene litigiousness.
Stunning,
Don Imus sues (reportedly a $120 million lawsuit) for breach-of-contract and you think that this girl being singled, put into the spotlight, and essentially branded for the rest of her life (and she will, I bet half of you would point if you remembered her face and saw her) because of this radio/television commentator is being 'greedy' or 'opportunistic' is just stunningly stupid.
Someone f's with me or my family (especially someone I have nothing to do with and has a public megaphone for whatever purported purposes), I'll pin them down, call them out, and make them pay, just as Imus felt he should with his employer.
I believe most people would have enough self respect to not sit in the corner after this uncalled for BS.
You People kill me.
During the biggest moments of her life as an athlete this young woman was intentionally thrust into a media frenzy due to the disguting remarks by an ignorant shock jock locking to boost his ratings a little more. So instead of focusing on practicing for the biggest game of her life, this young woman was dodging reporters and watching her likness on TV next to hate speech. How can you say there was no damage to her career? If you've ever played a sport you how important concentration is. WHy do you think 'off the court/field distractions' are follwoed so closely by ESPN. Please do not tell me that becasue Imus did not intened the frenzy he should be let off the hook. He's been around long enough to know what the media is capable of.
Was she not an athlete on a team that was poised to reach a national title? Was her concertartion and focus not disturbed by Imus' unfortnate comments and the media frenzy they caused. I think that is readily provable in court. I know its hard for some race baiting idiots to see past a black person getting money from a rich white guy but use some sense. This woman has potential to go to the WNBA and become a professional. Imus' actions affected the team in a negative way. He attacked them personally and made character claims that would concern any future employer ( Nappy Headed wasnt the only thing he said).
Let's face facts, Don Imus has to pay for what he has done. The socio-economic majority in this ocuntry has used the legal system to their advantage for years; filing lawsuits whenever it suits their purpose. Let's not pass jusdgement on a young woman who is doing nothing but participating in society. God Bless America. Where lawsuits determine right and wrong!
Don't be angry becasue she's playing the game you guys setup better than you are.
Sullied her name? I didn't know her name until now.
This is the thing…
I wouldn’t have minded if the Female population had trampled the First Amendment in order to make sure a child killer, rapist or anyone else who preys on the weak ever sees the light of day again. But they did it to get back at that 'wirey headed bigot' Imus for something he has the right to say.
If you think something he says is racist or insensitive then you go to the network advertisers, they take care of it. There’s no need to trample the First Amendment for a lump of poo like Imus.
Lastly I am a white kid who grew up in the hood, I learned the term “nappy headed”, “narrow behind”, “Bust yo head till the white meat shows”, ect, ect, ect,… from my black friends parents when they were in trouble. None of those terms were used in the house I grew up in, I had to Yes Sir & No Ma’am all adults, no matter the color.
she will get millions because we are so afraid of black people and being called raceists that she probabably will get about 10 million in a settlement.
too bad the duke boys cant sue someone but their white so nobody cares.
isny it amazing that we are more outraged about some drunk calling a spade a spade then some stripper trying to railroad 3 innocent me to prison for 30 years.
we are very sick people and deserve what we get.
oh by the way i think anyone who thinks oj is actually innocent is a freaking moron ok you black people get your lawyers and sue me, lol!!!
When Stevie Wonder wrote the lyrics, 'When I was a nappy headed boy', he established 'nappy headed' as simply a descriptive term regarding hair. If Imus used it to describe persons with kincky hair, so what! 'Ho' is a derogatory term almost universally used by rap musicians. Imus used it inappropriately and apologized in person to the women he insulted.
What is astounding is there has been no apology offered by any black broadcasting personality to the three duke lacrosse players who were falsely accused of rape. That trauma will follow them the rest of their lives. I only hope that they sue each and every broadcasting personality who falsely described them as rapists. At the top of the heap should be Sharpton and Jackson, two of the biggest hypocrites on the planet.
Miss Nappy-head is just making her look more pityful and Imus will probably make more money over it. I sure hope so, better than lawyers getting more.
How is an unspecified amount of money going to make situation any better? Imus said he was sorry for the comments he made and acknowledged that they were unfounded and degrading. He has already been punished, both publicly and though the loss of his job, and has expressed apology for what he did. His comments, I'm sorry Kia, did not permanently damage you and as a strong black woman you should realize that and move on with your life. Don't meddle with people who call you names. Get out there and kick butt on the basketball court to show people who you really are! Be the more mature person and accept his apology.
Come on come on! Of the $120 million that Mr.Imus has requested in his suit against his ex-employer for breach of contract, he reportedly is likely to 'settle' for $20 million. MAN how I wish I could say some stupid crap and get a windfall of $20 million for it! At the very LEAST it seems like he should split it with the counterparts to this silliness.
Freedom of speech. Done. Case Closed.
White Nazis can file (and recieve) a permit to march down main street waving nazi flags and signs that say anything they want about black people in general and specific black people.
All you leftist anti-war people can march with signs that accuse Bush and Rove of being baby killers, murderers and rapists.
Militant Black Muslims can march around calling white people names and accusing then of crimes they did not commit.
Gays and Lesbians are come under fire all the time.
This has nothing to do with race, or pride, or sticking it to the white man. This is about using the courts as an intimidation tactic to try and extort money from someone.
Until the courts enforce some frivilous lawsuit laws, this is legal and she has every right to go forward. I think it would be johnny beans if he fought her and ran up her legal bills.
Civil Rights apply to everyone, not just black people. Black celeberities need to grow up and realize that all famous people get attacked by the media. Can Rosie sue because people call her a fat lesbian pig?
I am surprised he didn't say anything about her looking like a man!
Isn't it ironic that I actually respected Kia Vaughn for the way she handled the situation? Not anymore.
'Stunning,' Imus' contract had a clause specifying that he could say controversial things to which some might take offense, and he was suing for 'breach of contract' for being fired after a tasteless but ultimately innocuous off-the-cuff remark. Vaughn and her snake-in-the-grass attorney are avariciously suing Imus for money neither deserve and abusing the legal system in the process. No one believes that because Imus called the entire team what he did in a moment of thoughtlessness, no doubt inspired by the reprehensible misogyny of hip-hop lyrics that blight our culture, that Vaughn was a prostitute, and her reputation suffered not one iota in the eyes of anyone with even half-a-brain and an iota of sanity. But I would venture to say that her reputation will now suffer profoundly as a huge proportion of people throughout the land now come to realize that Imus was right. Vaughn IS a 'ho.' Not in the literal sense, but in the figurative sense of one who prostitutes all semblance of her integrity for a quick and undeserved buck. She and her slimy attorney are despicable, and those who support them are almost equally so, in my humble opinion. Vaughn's calculated greed cloaked in self-righteous vindictiveness makes Imus' impulsive misstep pale by comparison.
Mr. Martingale:
Without the use of quotes, your storyline is in the same ignorant bad taste as Imus's original comment. You're on the wrong side of the line between being clever and being an ass.
the problem with this case is that after 5 months some money grabbing
lawyer con this girl into do this. I watch when Don Imus appologized to those
young women and I also was watching when he made the remarks. He didn't
call anyone of them indivually a napping headed ho, he was speaking in
general and so I am not sure how one person takes offense to that.
I had some black guys refer to some of us fellows as Honkies and it didn't
upset us. let it roll.
For the record, I'm not a Don Imus fan. I probably haven't watched/heard his show for 5 minutes throughout my 44 years. I think he's a jerk and that he and all of the other shock-jock types should be off the air. I find them all simply a source of air pollution.
However, let's face it; Don Imus was fired simply because he is white. If a black DJ had said the exact same thing in the same context the only people that would have ever heard about it are the unfortunate souls who happened to be tuned in at the time. How else can you explain the similar things (and much, much worse) things that we hear on the 'urban' stations all the time. Sad, but true.
The fact that Anus..er..Imus has settled with CBS and is slated to make a comeback gives the ladies of Rutgers good standing to file suit. I hope they win. This rednecked jerk should have been thrown in the dust bin years ago
datz dope, man! wut eva happin to freedum speech, yo! datz wuzup.
She got her fifteen minutes of fame, liked the taste, and now wants more. I hope Don gets back on the air and brings her on the show just to insult her again. What a joke...apology accepted but....you have money, I want some....how do I get it?????
A story like this sure brings the white racist bigots out from under their rocks. Imus has been smileingly poking at the line he knows is going to offend someone of some minority. Ever heard him insult rich white men? No? As a previous poster said no one here has any real idea what effect this may have on these women in the future. Lose your hate people. We all better learn to live together. Guess what? The Hippies were right. What we need is more love and less greed, hatred, bigotry, and selfishness.
