This is unbelievable...well its believable, but totally ridiculous. I dont like Don Imus, hes borish and unimaginative and imflammatory. That aside, this is a frivolous lawsuit. The comments of a dried up man with a dwindling listenership does not affect her character. And that the statement was analyzed syntactically instead of semantically is so wonderfully childish. How could someone say what her lawyers said about the 'hoes' part with a straight face? Anyone who has gone to high school understands the literal and colloquial meanings and usages of 'ho' Freedom of speech does not aloow slander, but to sue him months later, probably after being told by everyone 'oh man you shouldda sued his ass,' is...well...its unbelievable.
I bet Don doesn't have to pay a dime. The fact is that his contract with CBS required him to make contreversal remarks and his employer encouraged and aired them. CBS may have to fork over some more loot.
AFrican, Americans, need to quit living in the past.
No one living today has had anything,to do with what that happened so many years ago.

I think the world is the way it is because people like you cannot take a joke. Lighten up.
The original comment by Imus was made on a comedy show. It was a joke. The lady didn't even deserve an apology in the first place - but got one. And got Imus fired. And now, time for the big payday because her feelings were hurt.
Being called a nappy headed ho was the best thing to ever happen to those players.
Well, she can't sue over the word 'Ho because she just proved with this law suit that she is one.
Somebody needs to show all of these posts to that money grubbing little whiner. She got an apology, albeit she didn't deserve it, nothing truly bad was said. But I wonder what she'd think if she were to read how negatively people are reacting to her now? She should be ashamed of herself.
I was made fun of everyday from elementary school until middle school. It hurt because it was people who I knew personally and had contact with everyday. It ruined my self image and has impacted the rest of my life. But it also made me a stronger person who is able to emphasize with those who have also been mistreated. I was called freak and sworn at by a teacher. I had been publically humiliated in front of my peers. But you don't see me suing those kids or the school district. I problably wouldn't win. This young woman is suing someone who said something that wasn't even nearly as bigoted as he could have been he didn't call her the n word. I am sure she problably didn't even know who he was until This story became a media circus. She shouldn't be wasting the courts time. she should problably be thanking Don Imus for throwing her into the medias spotlight and for the boost in publicity that will eventually clear the way for her having a very successful life.
Yep, this is typical. Al Sharpton can call whites names, but
Don Imus can't say a word. I heard 'Rev.' Sharpton say that before
whites 'took over' blacks were the most 'well educated' and 'kings'
of the earth. He also stated that all whites were 'Queers' who have sex
with their mothers. I'm just wondering....where's my lawyer so I can sue
'Rev.' Al Sharpton?
what ?? Jews don't sue people ? I know I read that a few pages back or so. Jews sue at the drop of a hat ! So yes ! Good question ! Why did'nt anyone sue Sharpton for his comments ?
Another good point, show that frivilous money grubbing C word this site and all of these comments. Perhaps she will see the only one behind her is her money grubbing attorney and Sheister Sharpton.
How will money bring back anyones good name? In the end, it will cost tax dollars on top of any settlement to take the case to court. Your tax dollars that could be used for something good.
Your name is what you make of it. If I were called something that was offensive and it was not true, then so be it. How does that hurt me? Grow up, deal with or ignore the old, crabby man...oh no, I just called him names. I wonder if Imus is going to file against me.
Sure, the remarks made on air were and are offensive to some (but only when out of a white persons mouth), but this mad grab for money after the ABC settlement is just plain greed.
If the black community wants certain words to not be used, they should stop using them too. I live in a community of about 50,000 with a State University and a large mix of nationalities. You can't go into a restaurant without hearing black people using the 'N' word in reference to eachother as a pet nickname. I once counted 36 occurances in about a 3 minute wait for service.
We all know what would happen if I were to use the word once. I would hauled off to jail and sued for everything I own.
That, in and of it's own is racism. Black people can say it, and I can't.
Maybe we can address that???
I agree with one of the guys below said. He issues an apology. It's accepted. But they sue anyways. Freedom of Speech is a 1st Amendment right. You can say anything you want. Look at all the garbage and other jargon people say other day on the Internet, editorial columns (read the letters), and on talk radio. Sticks and stones, right? But she got better, he apologized on air. Now, people are going to think she really is a nappy headed ho, because she is showing that all she wants is MONEY. See it for what it is. This is nappy headed greed, and it doesn't matter what race you are. It also shows the other players who did not sue, at least can accept an apology, show they have class, and honor.
One poster mentioned they are black. To that, I say, don't make the assumption that everyone posting here is white, or that everyone against this lawsuit is a 'bubba'.
About the Imus lawsuit. When will it stop? I just looked up 'nappy' in the dictionary. It said 'negro hair'. Are we going to continue to have freedom of speech stiffled because someone doesn't like anothers choice of adjectives? Are we going to be accused of discriminating when we say someone has blone hair? After all, blondes are mocked for being beautiful but not the brightest star in the sky. The constant complaining gets old. Discrimination accusation has become a crutch!
So Imus makes insulting remarks about the Rutgers ladies basketball team and all hell breaks loose. Subsequently, there was a tearful and seemingly heartfelt apology by Don Imus for what amounted to the same type of remarks he has made day in and day out for the past three decades or more. This entire matter was blown totally out of proportion, a proverbial crock of crap.
His comments were absolutely tame in comparison to the trash talking Chris Rock, Martin Lawrence and many other black comedians that make a handsome living off spouting racial 'funny stuff.' In comparison with the dialogue and commentary of the aforementioned, Don Imus’s remarks about Rutgers ladies basketball are innocuous and benign. So what was the big deal? Politics and money mostly. Just think about it.
H-m-m-m-m! By the way, let us consider that you or I were to go to a Chris Rock production and paid admission and we became insulted and furious with something that he said. I suppose it would give us a valid reason to sue the man, the sponsors, and everyone associated with putting the event together. Yes, No? If Chris Rock made an embarrassing example of me and hurt my feelings, should I sue? I don't think so.
Given the content of Don Imus's talk programs over such a long period of time, it seems obvious that a strong precedent would be established in terms of the product he sold. How so? It should be understood that his show, on occasion, could be a tad bit on the raw side, somewhat crude at times, exhibiting some dialog that certainly borders on poor taste.
I am certain that some people may find this truly insulting, however, it gives no one the right to sue every time they hear something of which they disapprove. There is no valid reason to expect monetary compensation from Imus or anyone else. Would not Mr. Imus be found stripped of his constitutional right of free speech?
Why, thank God, did the framers of the Constitution decide to make freedom of speech the First Amendment? Wise men they were, so far ahead of their time.
There is absolutely no justification for any suit action against Don Imus or anyone associated with his production. I am not 100% sure that Mr. Imus, under the circumstances, even owed the Rutgers folks an apology for his remarks. What he was guilty of was merely performing as he had done for a very long time, i.e., another day at the office. Was Imus off color relative to his comments? Yes, perhaps. Was Imus guilty of a crime? Absolutely not!! Anyone should clearly understand that by now.
MSNBC and WFAN were wrong not to have supported Mr. Imus when the issue originally arose. They were remiss in the extreme in my opinion and should be ashamed of their spineless behavior. Why did they pay him the big money to begin with? Could they have expected anything less from Imus than what he delivered? Pitiful, simply pitiful, was the manner in which MSNBC handled the entire issue. Jellyfish have stronger backbones than those people.
The new suit by the Rutgers student is frivolous and without merit. It is possible that she is receiving direction, and consequently, some poor advice from her legal counsel as they are most probably blinded by the glare of dollar signs in their eyes.
Lawyers!! What won't they do to hustle a buck? Lawyers, yes! They bring to mind the Hollywood movie comedy, 'Mars Attacks,' wherein the Martians attacked, among others, the United States Congress in a ruthless manner, killing most, if not all of its members. Somehow, it suggested that the little green men had performed a real service for the nation, giving it a clean, fresh, new start.
H-m-m-m-m-m. What percentage of Congress is comprised of individuals with law degrees? A very high percentage I would bet. Perhaps this is why the land of the free and home of the brave is not in a healthier condition.
Sidebar - I, for one, will be very glad to hear that Imus is back on the air and Kudos to ABC for having the good sense and courage to do what is absolutely right and without the fear of a few harping dolts crying injustice. Mr. Imus will sell a lot of advertising for ABC and make ABC a lot of new fans.
Good news as we need Mr. Imus. My request would be that he expose as soon as possible, Hillary Clinton's attempt to forever silence him with her new Democratic Party instrument, i.e., 'Media Matters.' Best wishes to ABC and to Don Imus and his talented group of performers.
I hope this this lady is ready to be scrutinized completely. If she has any skeletons in her closet they will be found. Think girl, for the first time in your life think! Don't start something you can't end.
You are giving our black people a bad name all over again. I'd like to see you earn your money with a carrer, not by trying to steal money from a white man. Of course I understand, you have never defamed a white person, right? You are a shame to our race. I hope you get what you deserve, and it's not money.
The hypocrisy surrounding the Imus story is startling, but not a surprise. Neither MSNBC, actually General Electric, nor CBS will fire the black media personalities they employ for the numerous disparaging and untrue comments they have made about white lacrosse players at Duke. Why? Because they know it is unfair to hold black broadcasters to the same standards as white broadcasters.
Do you think opportunists like Jackson and Sharpton have the guts to go to Duke and personally apologize? In the same vein of double standards, NPR refused to name the black woman who, with malice aforethought, attempted to ruin the lives of three white college students by making false claims. That attitude should inflame the black community more than anything, as white American corporations blatantly expect less from black people. It is what might be called 'disaffirmative action', expecting less of those thought intellectually handicapped by race. Do you too think black people are innately inferior?
So what happens next? How do Americans combat the Red Guards of Righteousness, those who, if they do not like what you say, deny you the right to speak? It is simple. Each of Imus' fans need to buy one, just one, share of both CBS and NBC stock. The costs required to service each stock holder of record (issuing and mailing reports, dividend checks and book keeping) amount to about $35.00 per stock holder. If a million fans buy shares, we are going to cost CBS and NBC each roughly 35 million per year each. If those of us who are well heeled give gift shares (one each) to children and friends, and start a national trend, the CEO's are going to be pissing red ink before this scandal ends.
I drive a Chevy C10 and a Buick Park Avenue. When I trade again, I'm buying a Toyota. General Motors can go to hell. They have attacked the Constitutional rights of all Americans. Bigelow Tea just lost a huge number of customers, as did Staples. That is my kind of affirmative action.
By the way, though Caucasian, I was partially raised by black people, have a black uncle, a black brother-in-law, a black niece, a Chinese sister-in-law, three Chinese nephews, two Korean nieces, and an adopted Chinese daughter. My mother is Jewish. So send a message from this 'racist' to Jackson that I think less of him than did Mrs. Coretta Scott King, after he pretended to have been near Dr. King when he was murdered, by dipping his shirt in chicken blood. As for Sharpton, he should concentrate on his scalping business, collecting 5% fees for black mailing advertisers, essentially arranging protection contracts for business owners, just like a Mafioso.
A public and personal apology to the entire team. 5 months later and one of the team mates still feels insulted? I'm sure getting some money will make her feel much better! That'll restore her good name for sure!
She's obviously all about the money. I think Snoop Dogg should have to rethink his position on whether or not she falls into the 'Nappy Headed Ho' catagory. If seems to me she fits the requirements laid forth in The Gospel According To Snoop.
This is a sad commentary on society that we take people to court because we are offended by what they say. If you dont like what a telemarketer says, you hand up on him. If you dont like what a news broadcaster or disc jockey says, you change the channel.
I do not like Don Imus, I didnt like him before or after his comments. I do not agree with what he said. It was uncalled for but in today's society it seems you have to be outrageous as possible if you want attention.
He has wrongly been fired from his job but that is past. He has been punished. Why waste anymore time dwelling on this. You have changed one man in society. Good job. Now move on to the next offender instead of sucking the blood out of Imus just because he has money.
Snoop and other rappers do more damage to black women on a single CD than Imus could do in three lifetimes but because Imus is white, he is a target. Let's get some progress on banning the N word and every other word that offends even a single person in the world. The word defamation personally bothers the hell out of me but I keep it to myself and bravely carry on when I hear it. Anyway you pronounce the word it still smells like manure.
You have buried Imus already, let him rest instead of looking for your big payday.
Of course it's all about money. I understood the team members hadn't even heard about the show until someone told them about it. I'm a blonde, and I have to endure all the blonde jokes about being stupid so I really don't think nappy-headed is so bad - the hoes part, yes!
