Nicole Richie has confirmed she is pregnant.
'The Simple Life' star, who was sentenced to four days in jail after pleading guilty to DUI (driving under the influence) on Friday (27.07.07), is expecting her first child with Good Charlotte's frontman Joel Madden.
When asked if she was pregnant, Nicole - who first sparked pregnancy rumours after she was photographed outside a reproductive clinic in April - told ABC News: "I'm almost four months."
Nicole believes her jail sentence was fair and she is looking forward to "starting fresh" after serving her time.
She said: "I have a responsibility and it's something I did wrong. If I could personally apologise to every single person who has lost a loved one from drunk driving, I would. Unfortunately, I can't, but this is my way of paying my dues and taking responsibility and being an adult. I will be happy once I have done my jail time. I can start fresh."
The star was arrested on December 11, 2006 for driving on the wrong side of the road on a California highway.
She told the arresting officers she had smoked marijuana and taken the strong painkiller Vicodin.
Nicole insists she hasn't used drugs since December and says she was on painkillers at the time because she had "really bad menstrual cramps".
The 25-year-old realised she needed to be more responsible behind the wheel after watching a distressing news piece on TV.
Nicole revealed: "I was watching CNN about a month ago, and they happened to be talking about young people driving under the influence. They were flashing little kids on the screen who were killed by drunk drivers, and it broke my heart. It was a big wake-up call."
