The 'Billy Elliot' star was so nervous about getting naked in front of a 30-man crew for new film 'Hallam Foe' he begged to hide his shame with the clothing item.
He said: "I asked the director before filming if I could cover my intimate parts with a sock, but he said no.
"For all the people there it was just another movie scene, but I was horribly nervous."
Although he was anxious about the scenes, the 21-year-old star says his steamy on screen encounter with 36-year-old 'Meet Joe Black' star Claire Forlani made all his friends jealous.
Bell recently explained: "Every guy I tell about that is like, 'You lucky b*****d.'
"It's the first sex scene I've done. Sex was going to come up in the next three years and I wanted to do it with someone who has a good repertoire.
"Sex is incredibly awkward. There's always that moment when you know it's going to happen - and you still have to take your pants off.
"I find that interesting - those moments of awkwardness between two people."
