Michael Jackson's Prince advice

Michael Jackson is being advised on how to save his career by former chart rival Prince.

The eccentric star has reportedly turned to Prince, who he battled for pop supremacy in the 80s, for help with his comeback.

The 'Purple Rain' singer is said to have told Michael to play a series of acoustic shows in Las Vegas to prove to the world he is still an amazing talent.

A source told the New York Post newspaper: "Prince has been suggesting that Michael play a sequence of unplugged concerts in Las Vegas - just Michael and the microphone. No gimmicks, no costume changes, no smoke or mirrors, just his voice."

It seems Prince has had a change of heart towards his one-time rival.

Earlier this year, the diminutive star snubbed Michael's offer of a joint tour to help him re-launch himself on the world stage.

Prince was said to be concerned that the hype surrounding Michael's comeback would over-shadow the concerts, and he wasn't prepared to be the 'Beat It' singer's support act.

Michael's career has been in free fall since his 2003 child sex abuse trial.

Although he was acquitted on all charges, he has struggled to regain his once huge fan base and has been plagued by rumours his once massive fortune has dwindled.

I think prince is right in some ways (i.e singing live instead of mimeing, costume changes etc) however michael will obviously need some changes, billie jean just wouldnt be right without the glove and the glitter jacket.

How exactly has the writer of this piece of news ascertained that Michael Jackson has struggled to keep his fan base? He hasn't released anything since to be judged by, lol.

Word up Mike. Live & unplugged would remind everyone how great of a Singer you really are.. Go back to the basics.

OK, i'm a little skeptical about this article because his manager (Raymone Bain) said he's working with Will.I.Am. So why would he go to Prince when Prince's career wasn't even half as talented as Mike's but there is a small possibility this did happen. Either way, Mike does not need to go to ANYONE for advice, he just needs to come back with his miraculous talent!!!!!

I think Prince should actually team up with MJ since they would make a powerful team. I also think MJ REALLY SHOULD go back to basics. I think by doing this it would give him a whole new type of feeling that doen's come with dressing up.

How can anyone say Michael is more 'talented' than Prince? Take away the dancing, and He doesnt even come close to Prince! Prince has 30 something albums and he writes, composes, produces and performs 99% of all his songs. He's been selling out concerts for 25 years and even now breaking records at venues he perfoms at. He plays over 2 dozen instruments. How many songs has Mike actually written? How many albums does he have? How many instruments can he play? How well does this guy sing live? Oh, thats right, he lip syncs most of his live performances. Mike is a phenomenal dancer and No, Prince cant touch him when it comes to that...but everything else? Prince wins, hands down. Oh, and I know the micahel fans will throw up Thriller... ok, yea Mike has sold more albums back then, but again, I ask...How many songs did HE write? How many instruments did HE play? If mike couldnt dance...he'd have vitually nothing to offer talent wise. So Michael should definately listen to Prince! Prince is still remaining current 30 years into his career, so he obviously knows what he's doing.

Michael you suck! You mime, you wear crap costumes, you haven't changed your socks since the late 70's, you don't play instruments in your gigs- I wonder how you ever made it in the first place! You can't even be compared to prince! Prince is the BEST.

Anna Stesia needs to calm dowm. Prince and Michael are two different types of performers. there is absolutely no comparing the two. It's apples and oranges people, they're both Amazing and My all time favorite artists. if Michael had a world tour I guarantee it would sell out within the first week! Even if people aren't as big of fans as they used to be (not including myself because i frkn love MICHAEL JACKSON) they would still go to his concert just to say that they actually went to a Michael Jackson Concert. Am i right or am i right? Thank you. lady i mentioned before, put that in your pipe and smoke it!

I am in my 50's. I have been listening the music of Michael Jackson since before I was a teenager, even until very recently new music made by him. I only got to hear the name of Prince in the mid-late 80's and early 90's (that is about 10 years, where do the 30 years come from). Before Prince Michael Jackson had been performing for at least 20 years and when he emerged he looks like an spinoff of MJ, made few song and since I haven't heard anything else except that he change his name to an unpronaumsible bunch of letters?? Pleople please,.... if anyone needed revival it was Prince. The MILLIONS upon BILLIONS of people who love Michael Jackson ALL OVER THE WORLD will always love him for ever. Even now after his dead... Michael is and will always be alive. Prince who??

Michael has a greater public appeal and a place in our hearts because of his vulnerability. This is part of his mystique - like Elvis.
I think Prince is the more talented man and MJ knew it.
As far as dance - reviewers said (of the Sign of The Times studio show)that Prince makes Michael Jackson look nailed to the floor.
Michael's voice is plaintive, anguished and unique. It is harder to argue this, but Prince has a greater range of vocal skill. He plays more instruments, is a better songwriter and is a master of many genres.

Susan,

Your comments make no sense.
You state that you had not heard of Prince until the mid-late 80's or early 90's and this is only about 10 years.
Well firstly even if you had never heard of Prince until say 1989, that would still be 20 years!
Secondly Prince released his 1st solo studio album in 1978 and had his 1st real hit single in 1979 - now you do the math!
Prince was truly at the peak of his powers artistically and commercially between 1982 (1999) and 1987 (Sign O the Times). If you claim that you had never heard of him during this period you cannot claim to have a valid opinion that anyone should take seriously.
For my part I was a huge MJ fan back in 1983 - we all were; however as I grew older and learnt to full appreciate genuine musical artistry & genius Prince emerged as my favourite artist. He has it all the ability to sing dance and play - not to mention write and produce. MJ had some great music and was and always will be a legend; but while he was waiting 5 years between studio releases Prince was knocking out hit albums (some good some not so good), making music for other people, making movies and touring the world several times over. People always speak of MJ as the great entertainer, but when they speak of Prince it is as a musician.
He almost effortlessly pulled off 21 unique shows in London 2 years ago and played many after shows too. He also did it at a price that meant people could afford to go multiple times if they so wished, and gave away his album - this guy gave a lot of people a summer that they will never forget! Michael sold more albums.... so what? Ford sell more cars than Ferrari (and yes I know Ford are cheaper)!

They are both very talented and different. I'm a fan of both and grew up
listening to there music. They are great at what they do and both of them
cross over and grab not just black odeience but the whites to. My hat goes off to both of them and I think Prince should hook up with Janet Jackson and produce her next album now that would be a smash.

Definitely, with out a doubt....Prince is a VERY talented musician! HE can play over 20 instruments, I was a band geek in high school, so to me that is just totally awesome! I also grew up listing to the both of them, and I liked their songs, however I always seemed to lean more towards Prince, he just seemed to be more of a man, sure of himself, real, and never let the world create who he was, he knew who he was inside. Michael had a ruff child hood, to me that is a Hugh factor that plays the role in the out come of a person's life. He had to grow up faster. Now Prince had divorced parents later on, I think when he was a teen? He also had some issues with his step dad, but again not having that child hood in your life, can put a person into a different category..

Prince is a real genius and MJ is onöy a pop star whose carrier depended on MTV. Prince is a real musician and not a fake lip sync star like Mj. Long live Prince ....I am so happy living in a time of this genius

MJ wrote plenty of songs, on his albums and for others as a ghost writer as Prince has himself. MJ also played percussion on some of his earlier albums if anyone cares to check look at off the wall. Now, MJ is not Prince, and don't get it twisted, Prince is not MJ. Both are genius in their own way. As far as everyone claiming to be a fan of Prince, where were you when he didn't have a label and couldn't sell his albums like he thought he would be able to do. Don't get me wrong, Prince and MJ are my favorite artist. I just don't like when people compare their talent because they have two very different styles. I've heard (can't prove it) that they were not so much at odds as we like to think and that MJ would check out Prince conert from time to time. If Prince ever attended an MJ concert, he would never let you know it. RIP MJ, rock on Prince!

Prince is more of an all around tallent. I could never call Micheal a genius, As I would Prince. Do you listen to the Stuff HE writes and composes? Micheal Had great song writers and smart people around him guiding his career that brang him world wide recodnition. Not to take anything from his name, He would not of been as popular if all he amassed came from himself (say 90% or more) Prince carved his own path. And helped many while doing it. I will miss MJ. I like his songs.Don't like what he did to himself physically. R.I.P

I would first like to say may you now rest in peace Michael. You'll truly be missed! Now, I grew up listening to both Michael and Prince and agree with what others wrote to this blog when I say these two men can't be compaired. Although I am a HUGE PRINCE FAN I will say Michael is great also. Their styles are different and both can or could pack a house and sell out concerts. Michael was an awesome performer and NO ONE CAN DANCE LIKE HIM, Prince is an awesome artist. It would have been nice to see these two on stage together!

Once again, another ludicrous argument (just like the one I ran across the other day about who was 'better,' Elvis or MJ). I had to know this one would crop up eventually, too. In the 80's I loved both MJ and Prince. Who didn't? In those days I was probably a little more drawn to Prince because he seemed darker and edgier, but over the years I grew to appreciate MJ's artisty. Of course right now it's easy to wax sentimental and romanticize MJ because he's just died. But the truth is, as many have said, they are two very different artists. MJ wrote or co-wrote most of the songs on his solo albums, as well as composing and arranging songs for his siblings and other artists. Granted, he may not have been as prolific as Prince, but who is? And while he may not have played over 20 instruments, he did play percussion (including the drums on Beat It) and if memory serves me, piano as well. In the end, whether one 'prefers' Prince or MJ really comes down to a matter of taste and personal preference. But it doesn't have anything to do with one being 'better' than the other.

Well Prince has always been the more talented one. Prince can do the big shows and raw aftershows, the guys amazing. Mj should of took his advice, if this article is true, then Mj may not now be dead...as he would not of needed to be so fit. So he would nt of needed to rehurse all those amazing dances, and taking drugs for exhaustion. He could of just done a striped show without the gimicks, just sing, maybe a litle dance:)R.I.P MJ the press and crazy fans can't follow you where you are now!
