The 'Purple Rain' singer insisted upon having the snack-making machine placed in his hotel suite before performing at the festival in Switzerland on Monday night (16.07.07).
Event organisers agreed to the 49-year-old's peculiar request because festival director Claude Nobs - an avid antique collector - had one available.
A source said: "It was one of the more unusual requests we've had. I'm not sure where we would have found one if Claude hadn't had one.
"It seems traditionally made popcorn is one of Prince's favourite foods."
Prince's appearance at the festival was only announced at the last minute and he wowed the audience with a two-hour set including performances of several songs from new album 'Planet Earth'.
He is not the only star with unusual rider demands.
Madonna requested 12 dozen boxes of strawberries, eight full-length mirrors and a skipping rope at London's Live Earth concert earlier this month, while Justin Timberlake reportedly asked for anti-wind tablets before taking to the stage for the UK leg of his current world tour.
