50 Cent's two-bits about rapper remuneration
Jul 6, 2007, 7:00 GMT
50 Cent says he was too generous to the artists he signed to his label.
The rap mogul spent $8.5 million on rappers he signed to G-Unit Records so they could bring their entourages on his most recent tour.
He told XXL magazine: "Whether I got to give them $500,000 or $300,000.
Just 'cause they want $300,000 more to make what they are doing at the time comfortable. Like, 'yo, I want to get this new place over here.' "
The 'Candy Shop' rapper has told the rappers he will no longer be offering them free handouts.
He said: "I broke it down. I told them I wouldn't be assisting them financially anymore. Pretty much I was telling them I wouldn't be there. Before they'd make a lot of money and spend a lot of money and have me there to fix it.
"Laze was there as representation of M.O.P., Havoc and Prodigy, Banks, Buck. Spider was on the phone. Olivia was there. Sha Money was there."
The 'In Da Club' rapper lost his temper at the meeting after realising the artists were no longer showing loyalty to his G-Unit brand.
He revealed: "I looked around the room, and I was the only person with G-Unit sneakers on. But they were being paid.
"It had become the norm for the cheque to come, but they were no longer wearing the clothes."
