Sean Connery will not appear in the new 'Indian Jones' film because his retirement is "too damned fun".

The 76-year-old actor "thought long and hard" before refusing to reprise his role as the father of Harrison Ford's all-action archaeologist character in the fourth instalment of Steven Spielberg and George Lucas' adventure series.

He said: "I thought long and hard about it, and if anything could have pulled me out of retirement it would have been an 'Indiana Jones' film. I love working with Steven and George, and it is an honour to have Harrison as my son. But in the end, retirement is just too damned much fun."

Connery starred in 1989's 'Indiana Jones and The Last Crusade' - the third instalment in the series.

The untitled new movie begins shooting next month and is due out in spring 2008.

It was announced on Thursday (07.06.07) that Cate Blanchett, John Hurt and Ray Winstone will be joining the cast alongside Ford and Shia LaBeouf.

At 64, Ford is six years older than Connery was in 'The Last Crusade', and the retired screen legend had some advice for his former co-star.

He said: "Demand that the critters be digital, the cliffs be low, and for goodness sake keep that whip by your side at all times in case you need to escape from the stunt coordinator."
