so what ?
my Dad beat me with a belt to . but he used the end with the buckle .
think that didn't hurt..thats how it was done back in them days .
Hell I also grew up in the 50s and 60s and my old man beat me with not only a belt, but stomped on me with his foot, punched me with a fist and kicked me. I started getting hit from about 4 years old thru my teens. Like many other of my peers we were all abused, it was just that way. We didn't have the protection of the law back then, the law stayed out of family business. You just put up with it and got by the best way you could. Getting beat just because the old man had a bad day at work or didn't have enough money to pay bills isn't the kids fault for merely being there. I always wondered why my parents had me or my other siblings, five in my family, we were all abused. Later as an adult I confronted my father on this issue and telling him I never forgot, and that if he was raising kids today the way he did back then he'd have been locked up for a long time. My mother stayed in her place by not ever stopping this abuse toward myself or my other brothers and sister. I also told her in later years how I didn't care for her not coming to our defense in these unfair beatings. So Steve Martin should stop the mommy dearest thing and forget about it, most of that generation went through the same thing, and it was unfortunately just a part of that era.
