Cameron Diaz is looking for a man "strong enough to handle her".

The 34-year-old actress says she would never "lessen herself" for a partner and is only interested in guys who can "step up to the plate" and accept her independent and feisty nature.

Cameron said: "A strong woman makes the man who is strong enough to handle her step up to the plate. I do not believe that a woman should hide who she is or lessen herself in order to save a man's ego.

"If a man can't handle it, then it's probably not a good idea to get involved with him in the first place. I don't think this limits my choices at all. It just means that my selection is from the upper crust."

The 'Charlie's Angeles' actress is currently single after splitting from her boyfriend of three years Justin Timberlake last December.

Last week, Cameron claimed the last couple of years had been "hell".

The actress admitted she had struggled at times to cope with life in the spotlight.

She said: "The last couple of years were hell. I can't even tell you, it was so hard. I didn't know how to handle it. But I think I'm in a much better place now, because I stepped away for a second and took a breath.

"Hollywood is a funny place. It offers so much, but it can also take a lot away from you."
