Jennifer Lopez has reportedly hired extra security after animal rights extremists threatened to "slaughter" her.
The fur-wearing singer-and-actress - who is regularly criticised by People for the Ethical Treatment of Animals (PETA) - has now reportedly been sent menacing letters.
The letters are said to threaten "to kill her in public, just like the slaughtered animals whose fur she wears."
Lopez's husband musician Marc Anthony is said to be so concerned for her safety, he has hired additional security for her.
A source told the New York Daily News newspaper: "Marc Anthony has hired two off-duty police officers, in addition to her usual security team, to watch over Lopez whenever she makes public appearances."
Lopez's representative has denied the star has increased her security.
She said: "This is untrue. She has had the same security team she has always had."
PETA has slammed Lopez for hiring extra protection, insisting she is "promoting violence" by wearing fur.
A representative for PETA said: "All violence is wrong. But J.Lo needs to stop the real violence she promotes and subsidises rather than give herself extra protection she doesn't need."

Other news reports say that Lopez is now denying that she has received threats. It's probably just a publicity stunt and the irresponsible media is all too happy to jump on the animal advocates before checking the facts.
But, it is surprising to see these 'stars' still wearing fur, after they have repeatedly been made aware of the ethical problems associated with it.
According to the Humane Society, 'Millions of dogs and cats are slaughtered every year for the [Chinese] fur trade' and it deliberately mislabeled as fur from other species so that it can be sold to unsuspecting Americans. These are the same people who spiked our pet food recently with melamine just to increase their profit-margins. What they do to the dogs and cats is abominable.
Everyone from Martha Stewart to Paul McCartney has denounced this fur,
including some of the largest clothing retailers. J. Crew, Ann Taylor,
Abercrombie and Fitch, Olan Mills, and U.K.'s highly respected chain
Topshop, have all stopped selling fur after seeing the Fur Trade videos.
This is not an issue that concerns only animal rights advocates. Mainstream citizens are climbing onboard the boycott. Why would Lopez continue to flaunt the fur-wearing unless she is just seeking publicity?
Swiss Animal Protection recently released their fingings on the Chinese Fur trade. Anyone considering wearing fur has a moral obligation to view their video (which can be founf online) and investigate the 'production' process and where the fur comes from.
