If she signed a legal document without reading it, she is stupid.

If this were someone without money, it wouldn't be an issue. They'd go straight to jail without passing go.

The law applies to everyone, including the privileged.

Absolutely correct Beth!
Poor little rich girl got what she deserved and in true Paris form, blames everybody else but herself. I wonder if any of the other drivers who were on the same road as the drunken tramp were on their way to stay at the nearest Hilton?
Hopefully she will grow up while in jail.....naw, she won't.

She is spoiled, and stupid. See when you party every night of the week and then drive you're bound to get busted. Everyone saw it coming except her. I am glad to see the legal system act fairly despite her wealth. She should just consider herself lucky they didn't take a urine sample cause all the drugs would have shown up. Enjoy your youth and beauty now Paris, cause in 10 years your going to be a very weathered and burned out hag.

Paris Hilton better watch her back in the Century Regional Detention Facility, visitors who were at the jail yesterday warned.
'If you act like you're all high-class and uppity,' Denise Chavis said, 'you're done.'

About 150 men and women were waiting outside the jail yesterday - along with Chavis - to see family and friends. Many said they believed the 26-year-old Hilton was in for a strong dose of reality.

'My ex-wife got beat up and got a black eye in this place,' said a man, who declined to give his name out of fear of retribution against the woman.

And Hilton better hope the inmates don't remember the videotape broadcast widely on YouTube that shows her mocking Jewish and African-American people. 'She better learn to bite her tongue,' he said.

If she does report to the jail, Hilton will likely be living in a one- or two-person cell and segregated from the general population for her safety as a high-profile inmate.

A woman who gave her name only as Melanie and whose mother is in the jail on a narcotics charge said Hilton better thank her lucky stars for the extra security.

She said the general population showers together and that a large group of 'very masculine lesbians' prey on them.

'This is bad,' she said. 'She's not going to make it.'

Hilton will have to say 'goodbye' to dye jobs and cosmetics and 'hello' to five-minute showers once a day.

Her friends and family will only be able to talk to her through glass and her phone calls will be made on the jail's closely monitored pay phones.

Purse-pooch, Tinkerbell, will not be allowed to visit. And forget those designer duds she bought on Rodeo Drive.

In the big house, Paris will have to make two pairs of socks, one bra, two pairs of panties and two blue jumpsuits last for a week.

'You have to take your underwear and wash them out in the shower,' said Chavis, whose sister has been in the jail for the past month on a stolen car charge. 'The only thing you're allowed for makeup is a lipliner.'

Hilton also won't find any 600-thread-count sheets or chocolates on her pillow.

Instead, she'll get a stainless steel cot topped by a thin mattress, one thin sheet and one scratchy wool blanket.

'The bedding is very minimal,' said Debbie Day, whose 25-year-old daughter is locked up on a counterfeit bill charge. 'And my daughter says the food is disgusting.'

Paris would start her days in jail with a hard-boiled egg, a bowl of cold cereal and a small carton of milk.

And for lunch?

'They get baloney and bread with either mustard or mayonnaise, sometimes an apple and some watered down juice,' said Chavis. 'For dinner, they do get a hot meal.'

Suzanna Twaite, who was at the jail to visit a friend, said she hopes Paris gets no special treatment. 'I think she should be housed with the general population,' she said. 'I think she should find out what it's like in here.'

Nick DiOrio said that his 40-year-old girlfriend is currently in the jail. 'She says she'd rather be in state prison than be here,' he said. 'This is worse.'

She is utterly despised by a majority of the population because of her personality, her 'I don't care' about anything attitude, and her 'prima-donna' attitude'. It's been proven over and over again in history that life is not nice to these people over time, they all pay some form of retribution for how they are. Karma is going to bite her so hard in jail. You can drive on a suspended license but you must make no moving violations or else you will be caught. No driving at night without lights, no illegal u-turns, no more than 5 mph over speedlimit, and you must stop for old or stale yellow lights.

While I'm not thrilled by the thought of my tax dollars paying for Paris's time in jail, I think it's great that she got the book thrown at her. It's only too bad that she'll get special treatment as a high profile celebrity - I say toss her right in to the general population. The crowd speaks...May 7th, 2007 - 16:11:25

But in her defense, maybe the reason she DRIVES so poorly is that she can not read or think on her own. Basically she is just riding in a car steered by some remote publicist and they haven't worked out that virtual reality technology yet.

That said, I read these comments on this article and it amazes me that the very people who made and make Paris Hilton what she is, air-headed, utterly useless and yet constantly in the news, are those who love to vilify her now. That doesn't make me feel bad for her or encourage me to change my opinion that she should serve the whole sentence (I know someone who was hit by a car driven by a party person just like this and had his back broken). But it does make me feel dirty that I am joining the braying crowd.

Anyway, I'm sure her lawyer will be successful in having the jail sentence reduced if not eliminated. I don't have a problem with that. Isn't that what good lawyers are for, anyway? And with her money, she can afford the best. But, if she does go to jail for a short period of time, I hope she can make the most out of it, and come out a better person. But then again I've always wondered that about celebrities. They have servants for every other little insignificant thing; why don't they just hire someone to drive for them so that when they want to get blotto they don't put the rest of us (the unwashed masses) in danger of being killed? I understand that some could feel that it might be better if Hilton was given house arrest and a huge fine, but then she wouldn't learn anything. Nothing at all. No matter how big the fine was, it wouldn't be punitive, because for that family, money is no object. Also, staying home in a mansion, or penthouse apartment with every possible amenity is not punishment. Her family would pay anything to keep her out of jail. And that's part of the problem that these people have to deal with. Money can't (or shouldn't) be able to buy everything. Who would argue that some poor person living in the projects should be sentenced to house arrest and a fine(even if the fine was relative to this/her earnings, and his/her apartment was lousy) for his/her DUI? The easiest that she should get off is to be seperated from the general population. This girl lives in the real world (though she doesn't act like it), and she acts like she is above our laws. She cannot be allowed to be. The judge did the right thing, and he/she should becommended for the decision. It has the benefit of sending the appropriate message to others who also feel above the law.

Surely you guys realize she's not going to a normal jail. California has 'pay-to-stay' jails where she can serve her sentence in a much nicer than normal cell - its only about $100 per day. She will have to sleep in the (private) cell every night - but she can have her cell phone and laptop, and order out what food she wants. She will also be let out of the cell each day for 'work' release - the general expectation in CA is that a person in jail for a short (less than one year) sentence spends 12 hours per day in the cell and 12 out. This is only if they have money, of course. The private jails are hugely profitable for the counties that have them. She will have her own entrance/exit from the cell, etc.

Maybe now the little b!tch princess with finally grow up and out of her (uppity diaper) and realize that there's a real world out there. She needs to learn how to do some things for herself and not trust the people around her. A few more lessons like this might make her a real person, without mommy and daddy to run to her side.

It's a waste of taxpayer money to keep her incarcerated. Corporal punishment would be the ideal solution here. A good old Signapore caning, or perhaps a Mediterranean-style bastinado. Then sell the video and put the proceeds into schools.

Good idea 'Profane'. How about sending Paris to summer camp and Alex Baldwin can be her personal counselor!

They should just spank her bare ass out in public and be done with it (just like in the old days). It would make a great movie to watch on YouTube.

Hey- I_M_Profane,

I actually do see your point about caning, but... In Hilton's case it'd probably be considered fetish porn and she'd end up making a gazillion dollars off of it in the long run. Sigh...

Paris should pay the fee to help De La Hoya learn how to box. He lost on cinco de mayo.

Usually when you get a small jail term for driving offenses or disorderly persons the judge will allow house arrest or community service and will not send that person to jail. Paris is high profile and the judge is absolutely treating her harshly not that I care. Just setting the record straight.

Hey OldHag, you're forgetting about the issue of Broken Probation. This isn't an isolated incident. And by the way, if you don't have any derogatory things to say about Paris, then please don't say anything at all. Didn't your mother ever tell you that?

Sadly Rick and Kathy are the dumb ones here. Her publicist won't save her when she crashes and dies or is paralysed. So if her sentence makes them sad now what until she imposes her own sentence.

Actually I think Nicole Ritchie should have gotten a jail sentence for her driving record too. If Paris got 45 days for a suspended license and probation violation then Nicole should have gotten at least a year for her actions.
here is a good reason that people like Paris Hilton get segregated cells. hey would be considered a trophy for the rest of the inmates to collect. It's always been that way for high profile cases and it is no different in this case.
Hopefully Paris will learn from this if she does actually have to serve this sentence and also maybe it will make all the other young celebrity partiers out in LA think twice before they get behind the wheel when they are either drunk or high on drugs.
One other thing that might be a plus for Paris being locked-up for 45 days is that she will be totally clean when she gets out. A 45 day dry-out might just be the thing she needs.
Anyway, I hope Paris uses this time to think hard about where her life is headed if she stays on this path of self destruction.I wish her good luck and hope she comes out the other end a better person...

Poor, poor little rich girl can't read the law for herself. I think she deserves it for all the garbage we have had to endure about her, it will be nice to have her out of the news for awhile. She is an obnoxious media hound who has done embarrasing, stupid things. Maybe this will make her grow-up a little and start acting like an adult as opposed to a spoiled little rich brat!
Get some class Paris, you need it!

they should be locked up for good...like in a maximum security
prison..and I'm not taking about the ladies prison either..
I was hoping her sidekick Nicole 'something' will be
following her soon...these two are scary...

Paris is one of the worst shameless bitches we have ever witnessed from the media, she needs a lesson big time!! Well, she needs way more than a 45-day jail, I think sending her to Iraq to fight for our country is a better idea.

Well given the responses I've read on here so far you can tell none of you have ever had to deal with the responsibilities and burdens that come with extreme wealth. It is not her fault she was born into money, in fact a good 18 to 19 million Americans share Paris' plight. Until you walk down her golden brick road you should think twice about throwing stones. If you do I recommend you hire a service to do it for you.

Someday maybe you'll be successful too and find yourself in the same dilemma then we'll see how high and mighty you feel. Even rich people work a night shift sometimes and Paris is no exception I'm sure. In fact Paris is all about working it, especially at night.

Truth be told I'll bet this has to do more with her name being Paris...you American's have always hated the French! And while that might still be fashionable in America, just know you wouldn't any fashion at all if it wasn't for the French!

She is being held accountable. No wonder it feels unusual to her. And what is she doing taking legal advice from a publicist? When her license was suspended, the judge is usually crystal clear about her limits. She had the opportunity at that time to ask whether she could drive for work-related purposes. To be granted an exception, one must ask for and be granted one. There is no way she was confused.
