The eccentric British actress hates watching herself on the big screen, and says it makes her want to quit acting.
Helena said: "I go into a massive depression. It takes four days to recover, and every time, I say, 'I'm giving up acting.'
"I'm very self-critical. I hate everything - how bad I look, how bad my performance is."
The 40-year-old decided has revealed she decided to become an actress after her father suffered a stroke when she was 13.
She laughed: "I thought, while he is in intensive care he won't care what I'm doing, so I'll get an agent!"
Helena admits she has struggled with some of her previous roles, because she didn't like the characters she was playing.
Helena - who is currently shooting 'Sweeney Todd', which is directed by her long-term partner Tim Burton and also stars Johnny Depp - explained: "I didn't feel happy in the part for 'Mighty Aphrodite'. I wasn't mature enough. She was very sophisticated and I didn't really like her.
"I have to like my characters. I love Mrs Lovett, who I play in 'Sweeney Todd', she makes pies out of humans, but she is fantastic!"
