way to go great job lapd send them all back to mehico....on a one way bus ride ....driven bye one of the coyotes that smuggled them here illegaly ......love love love all......lapd heroes.......kar
They should have used machine guns.
LAPD acted correctly. The crowd was full of professional provocateurs flying communist flags and staging photo opportunities with children in their arms. All these people want is to destroy the US; they do not want to participate nor assimilate. And I speak as a native-born citizen, Los Angeles resident, parent, veteran and Hispanic.
What's with the highlighted words in this article? -- I click on 'videos,' expecting to see videos of the incidents they say were filmed, and instead of videos of the incident, I get some list from a web search showing different videos I can buy etc. Same with 'pictures.'
If the highlighted words aren't directly related to the article, they shouldn't be highlighted in the first place. This is an exceptionally obnoxious way to get readers to read ads, and I very much hope this website, which I otherwise have liked, will discontinue this practice.
It's just like deja vous all over again...the more unlimited power we give the government ( federal and state) without supervision, the faster we are becoming a facist state. The FEDS are programing us to be afraid; it makes us easier to control. Local police are not immune from the fear that is being intentionally instilled into the American population. Instill more fear, raise the percepted threat level, and we will give more of our liberties and rights and freedoms away without any second thoughts. If we are not vigilant we will have no rights of assembly, freedom of speech or any of the rights we are promised in the Bill of Rights.
As a child of the 60's I've seen it all before...what Nixon tried and did get away with for a while makes what Bush II is doing look like junior high school pranks.
If they repeat their lies long enough, they be come the truth to many. Don't fall for their media campaign of terror on Americans.
deport all of them...they broke the LAW
the hate expressed in this country, in the previous comments, and in the actions of those officers is frightening. Videos of the incident clearly show a police force using fear and violence to disrupt a PEACEFUL protest in a PUBLIC park. anyone who is not worried by the conduct of this police force needs to seriously think about what kind of country they want to live in, what freedoms they value, and what they think they believe in.
Why is everyone so surprised at what happened? Repression is the trend Americans have suported since Ronald Regan was in office. But you people are too busy flag waving to see what's happening right before your very eyes.
If you really want to understand what's going on in the United States today you need to look no further than pre-WWII Germany for you answers.
Stop crying, it Mexico, not mehico so go back to school and then talk shit. Machine guns? We are a first power, act as if. El Grande I bet you you are more brown than my HUEVOS! be proud of being an American like I am, an lead by example. Peace!!! :-
Human migration has gone on since the beginning of human history.
Universal national boundaries have only existed for a few hundred years.
Which is more likely to predominate, in the long run?
One of the main reasons we have as much migration as we do is because of U.S. policies on NAFTA and Free Trade. These practices have driven small farmers out of business in the U.S., Mexico, and worldwide because corporate farm companies can now sell their cheap corn anywhere. An estimated 1.3 million farmers in Mexico alone have lost their farms. So what do they do when they have no livelihood?--Some come here.
NAFTA and Free Trade have other bad effects. Many more jobs now are outsourced, putting Americans out of work. Productivity has gone up alot in the last 25 years, but wages in the US have remained stagnant, and in Mexico they've decreased. The only ones who benefit are corporations and the rich people who own and run them. And they're making their money on the backs of all of us--Americans, Mexicans, and other working people around the world.
For that matter, the rich don't want illegal immigrants to return because they are cheap labor who don't dare complain, and who employers can take advantage of easily.
And even if they were forced to return, having huge amounts of unemployed people south of the border would lead to great social unrest and probably some form of revolution to a more socialist type of government. I don't think the U.S. administration, whoever they are, would be thrilled about that.
So if you really want to do something for yourselves in the long run, put your energies into getting rid of NAFTA and Free Trade Policies which benefit mostly big corporations. And that will effect immigration, too; most people would rather make a tolerable living and stay home than come all the way to a strange land through dangerous territory and struggle to make a few pennies.
What happened in Los Angeles is only the beginning. It was called an IMMIGRANT RIGHTS RALLY. Well, hate to say this, but only LEGAL immigrants should have RIGHTS in this country. The rest should be deported, imprisoned, or shot. And the same goes for those who smuggle illegals across the border, employ them, or give them safe haven - since those who enable lawbreakers in their breaking of the law are ACCOMPLICES to the crime.
As long as liberals embrace an open-borders philosophy, and as long as conservatives tacitly support illegal immigration by dressing them up in fancy names like GUEST WORKERS, and as long as illegals consider their breaking of our border laws a RIGHT, the violence will continue and only get worse. It is getting to the point where citizens and legal immigrants (whose petition approvals are delayed each time an illegal crosses the border) will lose all faith in their government to protect the border. And when that happens, they will take the law into their own hands. It will be sad to see this happen ... but it WILL happen if our governmental and political nonchalance toward illegal immigration continues on its present course.

The blame goes to the anarchists, MEChA boys, La Raza bigots - the cretins who started it all. The bandana freaks.
To hell with them. Zero tollerance for anarchists. You cheesewheelers want anarchy? You got it Tuesday. How do you like it?

Answer? The rule of law or anarchy, take your pick. No one I know wants to go back to the bad old days when everyone was a migrating nomad. And while I wholeheartedly sympathize and agree with your viewpoint toward NAFTA and Free Trade laws, ask this question --- which came first, NAFTA/FT or illegal Mexican immigrants? I'm 57 and I can remember hearing my step-dad (when I was a kid) complaining of what he called 'wetbacks'. He saw an awful lot of them since he and his brother owned a ranch in Eastern Oregon.
The difference between then and now?
Hands up ... all those who think that ONLY Mexicans are crossing our borders illegally. Hmm, not many hands went up. Border Patrol agent, Dan Green, has gone on record saying that one out of 10 illegals he caught in one Mexican/US border crossing were from either Yemen or Egypt. It wasn't noticed until, on the way to a processing center, some of the aliens were heard speaking Arabic. But even Asians and persons from post-Soviet republics have been caught crossing the Mexican border into the US. Cubans? Who knows.
Criminals (including border violators) are like electricity ... they travel the path of least resistance. And our level of border security has made us a laughingstock among nations.
But, even if only illegal Mexicans were crossing the Mexico/US border, it would be best to ask the opinion of a legal immigrant to all this. I was married to one for 20 years. She was a legal immigrant from the Philippines, working in Los Angeles when we met. And when we married, and later when she became a naturalized US citizen, we petitioned 4 of her siblings (3 sisters, 1 brother). Not long after the time when their petitions SHOULD have been approved, we asked an INS office in Seattle what the delay was. The INS officer told us that petition approvals for legal petitioners are PUSHED BACK every time an illegal alien crosses the border ... since the INS has good estimates on their numbers.
Six years from the time when they were petitioned (at the time, the normal wait was three years), they were finally approved and arrived in this country. And when they got here, three of them went to work picking vegetables at a local farm ... the fourth got a job as a maid for a motel chain. So, when I hear someone say that Mexican illegals are 'ONLY DOING THE WORK AMERICANS WON'T DO,' I'd like to throttle them and yell into their faces 'NO, THEY'RE DOING THE WORK LEGAL IMMIGRANTS WOULD DO IF THEY COULD ONLY GET HERE!!!'
Illegal immigrants indirectly took THREE YEARS of income out of the pockets of my wife's siblings and put it into their own pockets ... all because they had the gall to waltz across the border into the arms of a government that didn't give a damn that they did. All her siblings wanted to do was obey the law - and this is how the government rewarded them.
Frankly, I know a few Filipinos who would like nothing better than to pack a few deer rifles into a pickup, drive down to the Mexican border, and pick off a few illegals as they attempt a crossing. And I imagine they might be joined by legal immigrants from Asia, Africa, and the post-Soviet republics who work along side them in the fields, the motels, the fast-food restaurants, etc., who've petitioned their OWN siblings ... and are dealing with the same delays caused by the same reason.
Seriously, a lot of people are worrying about the Minutemen patrolling the border. But if I were them, I'd be more worked about legal immigrant petitioners told that their sons, daughters, mothers, fathers, brothers, and sisters have to GO TO THE BACK OF THE IMMIGRATION BUS to let the preferentially treated Mexican illegals take their places.
Some of you people commenting should have been on the receiving end of the LAPD. I can't believe the vitriolic hate coming from you against people from Mexico. Those of you griping you can't see a video, here's one that's free and it's unedited video from Christina Gonzales.
edit: This won't allow a link. Go to youtube and choose (taking off the caps as ordered by this site) 5-1-07 LAPD Assaults May Day Demonstrators.
Every single one of you had to have an ancestor come to America from another country. Would you want them treated like this? Also, this part of California was once Mexico. You ignorant fools!
The LAPD went too far this time and it will be nice to see some of these cowards that attck women and children lose their jobs. It's very hard to believe that 100 officers in full riot gear could not isolate 50-100 people throwing rocks. I wonder if being a coward with absolutely no morals is a requirement to join LAPD.
The actions this past Tuesday by some members of the LAPD is reprehensible and unexcusable. The hatred and bigotry expressed by individuals on this site is simply shameful. This is supposed to be America, land of the free, home of the brave. What occurred this past May 1st should never be tolerated and various officers need to be held accountable. There is never excuse for police abuse. To those who feel the actions by the police were OK I recommend you read a little bit of history, especially around 1938 when the Nazis started hunting down Jews.
This is a land of immigrants and before you fall into the trap of calling people illegal please remember that the revered Pilgrims who came onboard the Mayflower were no different than those folks you look down on today.
Illegal immigration may not be the greatest thing in the world, but to claim that every illegal should be thrown in jail or deported just because they broke the law insults your own intelligence. What would happen if we threw everyone who broke any law into jail? Anyone who's ever gotten a speeding ticket would have a prison record. The punishment should match the crime. The purpose of prison is to keep people who are a danger to others in isolation. Why don't some of these law enforcement officials stop playing cowboys and indians with rubber bullets and start focusing their efforts on the violent criminals who make it over the border? The communities which these bad guys hide in would be more helpful in rooting them out if informants weren't in constant danger of being deported.
And it wouldn't hurt members of the anti-NATFA crowd to open an economics textbook once in a while. The Mexican farmers didn't get pushed out of business by armed mercenaries hired by corporations (only governments and drug wars do that ;-)). Instead, their former Mexican customers saw that imported food was cheaper than the local stuff they could buy. So they made a conscious choice, as independent consumers, to spend their hard-earned money on imported food. If some anti-NAFTA college kid wants to support farmers in Mexico, he should take the money he was going to spend on his next ten iTunes downloads and try buying something from them. This individual should not be trying to limit the choices available to the Mexican people who are not farmers. These 'non-farmers', by the way, now have more money left over to by durable goods and improve their standard of living.
To determine who caused a multiple-vehicle accident, the blame always goes to the first vehicle in the chain. In this case, it is the Federal Government which, for a long time, has taken a laissez-faire attitude toward enforcing our border laws. How many people here honestly believe that this protest march would have even taken place if the laws already on the Federal books were enforced? The mess was created by the Feds ... who are safely sheltered from blame by those who would blame the janitors (LAPD) left to clean up after the mess.
This is just one more example of the US morphing quite rapidly into a Fascist Police State, and one of the primary tools used for control of the population is, of course, the nation's police departments....departments which are largely made of, I dare say, borderline psychopaths; the LAPD is a prime example.
These days, guys join the Army or Marines, go to Iraq, and many do all manner of vicious, sadistic things to the population, there, and when these sickos return to the States, make a beeline to the various police departments where they are welcomed with open arms.
In case you're still asleep, boys and girls, these sick creeps actually ENJOY doing the types of activity that the LAPD was just engaged in; they live for it, they can't get enough of it. I'd say, for the sake of us all, these sickos need to be lobotomized.
